When everyone spends 99% of their time just trying to pay the bills it's hard to get anyone to pay attention to anything. Kinda hard to care about the worlds problems when most people are trying to stay afloat.

Living here in Saskatchewan, if we didn't have natural gas to heat our homes...I would spend summers cutting down as much firewood as I could. I would not give a damn what the cost to our environment would be. But I know what would happen if I could not keep me and my family warm.

We live in a fairly cold climate temperatures can get down to -30c, we heat our home with wood, because we have thirty three acres of it, we also have electricity if needed but it’s three times the cost to use compared to wood. Heat pumps don’t work after -15c as my neighbour tells me he burns wood to keep warm when that happens. I’d love to emissions free but not when I’d have to eat rice and potatoes for the rest of my life.

Takes wealth, surplus to afford second order priorities. This happened in Britain - IDK if Thames was literally on fire but early industrialisation horribly destructive at first.

Visit Africa, you see this first hand. Coal power is used to try and keep the lights on. It’s an ecological disaster, but when it comes to heat and survival people will make a fire on the floor of a 5* penthouse suite living room to do the same.

I keep telling people, our energy/pollution problems stem from economic problems, and our economic problems stem from ground rents. Study Adam Smith and Henry George - their solution is to shift the tax burden onto rent.

That would be amazing for the people, but the problem is that that option doesn't make the shareholders/investers rich.
