Real World Tesla Model Y Efficiency with a COLD BATTERY (Part 1)

Показать описание
In this video, I test the Tesla Model Y cold temperature efficiency with a cold battery. In other words, I did not precondition the battery, and left the Model Y parked outside. The temperature range for the test was -1°C to -3°C (30°F to 26°F). Does the Model Y heat pump make a difference? How does the Model Y perform in cold weather? Part 2 of this video will follow shortly with a warm battery test to see the difference.

The Tezlab App seems to be under reporting efficiency. The Model Y recorded Wh/km for this test as 195 Wh/km, while the Tezlab app recorded 206 Wh/km. At rated range, efficiency would be 168 Wh/km (2021 Model Y). Depending on the source of data you trust, the efficiency is 72% at the low end, and 77% at the high end. I trust the Tesla number, so I think the efficiency was 77%. This is a huge improvement over the Model 3, and the heat pump makes a difference, imo.

Good results with a cold pack. Interesting to see the next video.

I can see you live north of Toronto. Driving test was performed on Highway 400 and back roads. With cold weather temps, best thing is to pre-heat car and battery a half hour before you want to leave and best to leave your car plugged in from charging or to set charger to charge in enough time before you are ready to leave and turn on cabin heat. If battery is cold, driving will eventually warm it and regenerate braking will come back and efficiency will improve as you have demonstrated.

I’d like to see a comparison between your numbers and a 2021 Model 3 LR AWD just to see what the difference would be. Good stuff!

Good vid cap’n; Can you share your past model 3 efficiencies on that trip for comparison, to qualify the improvement?

Have you experienced any heating issues people have been reporting. I think the biggest complaint is that sometimes the heat would blow out cold air while using the heat.

Got my MY delivered .. it's nice however I do have some issues like bent bottom corner on the Driver side door, loose cover on sunshade, misaligned seats, dirt particles in the fog light.

Great Vid, Do you notice much of a height difference when you are driving Model Y vs the 3? I figure you are the perfect person to ask this question.

If you weren't so far away I'd absolutely lend you my 3 for the test. Well actually I forget where you are at but I'm guessing somewhere in ontario. I'm in the prairies lol. I'm sure you'll find someone since that area should have tons.

Another good video. Definitely will be more efficient then the 3. I am curious about how it is compared to the X. The X has a dedicated battery heater but no heat pump. Which one would loose more range in the winter. Good videos asalways

Is there any difference in charging in cold temperatures vs regular temperature? Thanks for the video! Hoping to order MY either today or tomorrow!!

Question, when you traded in your model 3, could you use your referral code to get the free super charging? I ask because my model 3 was involved in an accident, extensive damage and likely it looks like a write off, so I’m wondering how that works. If I have a referral code can I use that for my next Tesla

The snow is really beautiful! It is too bad that they have to use environmentally damaging salt in the cold parts of our countries.
