I’ve been obsessed with Tesla for 4 years I’m glad I invested in this company

The reason why most people aren't happy with this video is that the thumbnail and even the intro of the video were misleading.

Hola everyone, I wanted to add some clarity here. I initially intended to drive my Model Y until it stopped running, as I have 2x before with my Model 3. In this case, my team and I had to make the call that it ultimately wasn't safe towards the end of the trip. It sucks and I'm bummed I wasn't able to check the added mileage after hitting zero as I did 2x before in my Model 3, but in the end, I didn't want to endanger myself, my team, or the other drivers on the road. I understand some of you may have wanted to see that but that's not the kind of channel, nor business, I want to run. Safety is a top priority for us when running these experiments, that and collecting data to understand what's going on. If you'd prefer that kind of content, which I understand some of you may desire, I suggest you watch Danny Duncan's videos with his model 3. He pushes the boundaries in a way that is infinitely more entertaining than I will ever be on this channel.

I still posted this video and am keeping it up because the detailed data we collected tells a story of how the Model Y performs when you take it from fully charged down to empty. Data being the focus of this channel I found that insightful as I hope you did. I also think it is relatable to most people since I doubt anyone outside of YouTubers doing stunts for clicks would reasonably attempt to drive their car past zero miles.

I hope this comes across with the best intentions and true to the focus of this channel of freeing the data. As well I wish you and your family health and safety during these chaotic times. Stay tuned for more as we'll be ramping up production here for the next couple of months.

Best,
Ben

"Till it literally stops". Stops at 0 miles and doesn't continue to full shutoff. Still good video though

I rented a Model X for a trip from Redwood City to Cayucos back in August. Nothing but range anxiety the whole trip. Supposedly get 290ish miles and we were lucky to get 200 at any time. Had to travel to SLO twice during a 4 day stay to recharge.

I didn't realize Model Ys are that much less efficient than Model 3s. My M3 LR AWD with Aero Wheels has averaged 251 WHr/mi over about 14, 000 miles.

So it has the same range as the Audi etron? Audi claims only 210, but it actually gets 250. Tesla claims 320 but actually gets 250. They both have the same range. But the Audi will massage you for that same trip.

I purchased the boost for my Model Y, I'm getting 300 miles after most current update 2020.40.8.

I’m pretty sure if you don’t refuel an ice powered vehicle it too will grind to a halt when it’s fuel runs out. Highway, high speed driving will always reduce ‘fuel’ economy.

A good idea for anyone that’s got a connection with Tesla. It reads red yellow green lights right? Can we get launch control that works off of the lights on the tree and street lights ?

How is it that you were in Autopilot but your Max speed did not have a blue active circle, and the steering wheel icon was blue ? 3:40 marker.

it is always fun to recompute miles-watt-hours to the actual exercised horsepower...
At 3:20 you said it was 33 kW-h for a 100 miles, or, roughly 20-25 kW or 27 - 35 hp.
This is less than any car engine hp in USA and in Europe and roughly corresponds to a 600 cc displacement

Nice to get the actual data, love it! But please, for us international viewers, can't you just mention or put label on the screen with the metric unit. Thanks, and keep produce quality videos!

There's an ENORMOUS difference in range between 75 mph and 55 mph. The relationship between range and wind resistance is exponential not linear.

I think to get range you need to account for efficiency or lack there of. Since you drove 75mph your efficiency went down, also acceleration, ac etc are personal choices that will vary person to person, but you can eliminate a lot of that by multiplying by a correction factor, since you got 80% i’d multiply by 1.25 to bring it to 100% efficiency- to understand better how our choices impact range and how you might be able to get out of a close call by slowing down and just blowing outside air vs. AC. Good luck to those of us in hot climates.

So rent Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the day and turn left till the battery is empty. :)

Wait you're using autopilot which significant decreases range...am I missing something?

I think it’s interesting how the rated wh/mi implies that you’ll use the entire battery pack, but Tesla doesn’t give you the entire battery pack to use (in the range it displays), so you will not be able to travel the miles it says you have even if you get the EPA rated wh/mi. Example: A new Model S has 402 miles of range available at 100%, but it only gives you something like 93 kWh of battery (not including backup 7 kWh). This means that if you get the EPA rated wh/mi, you can’t go 402 miles before it reaches a displayed 0 miles, because it’s only giving you the 93kWh in the display.
