Shortages on products from appliances to vehicles to furniture became common during the pandemic, and while things are improving, one shortage is leaving drivers stranded without their cars for months. Consumer Reporter Susan Hogan explains.

this is the exact reason, why i purchased a 2nd vehicle after my accident in may of 2023. had around 12k in damage..lots of parts on backorder, ended up keeping it for 3 months. after i purchased 2nd vehicle, i canceled my rental coverage. rental would ONLY COVER 30 days, regardless of how long it took to get the parts. Never again.

Several companies exist that repair seatbelts. One week turnaround.

Accountability how can she possibly be on the hook for a backlog.On her damaged cars seatbelt safety system, If it's a part of the insurance repair agreement. That not what she pay insurance for to not have to incur unwanted added financial costs ? The Insurance company, the car repair station and the rental car establishments need to coordinate a better system that's more consumer-friendly ! To serve the customer is the reason for their existence and how they make their profit Seems like greed is too much of of the motivation nowadays !
