Physical Symptoms of Grief

Physical symptoms of grief//In this YouTube video, we will be discussing the physical effects of grief on the body. As someone who has experienced grief in my personal life, and seen it in many of my clients, I want to shed light on the different ways grief can impact us physically.
We often forget that grief is not only when someone passes away, but can also be caused by missing adult children or the loss of what we had hoped for their life.

During the grieving process, it's common to experience a decrease in pleasure, loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping, and headaches or body aches. Tears are a natural part of the grieving process and contain stress hormones that can actually be healing on a physical level.
It's important to note that acute grief can stun the heart and cause physical strain, especially for those over 65, but these physical changes in the heart typically reverse after the acute grief period has passed.
As a non-therapist, I want to share my personal experience with grief and the physical effects it can have on the body. This video is not intended to be a substitute for therapy, but rather to bring awareness to the physical toll grief can take on our bodies. Join me in this discussion as we explore the different ways grief can impact our physical health.

Thank you Sally for making these videos. They help me feel less alone in my estrangement with my adult son...my only child. What I have found so invalidating and discouraging is comments from my family and friends, who have made comments such as, "At least he's still alive. Imagine if you had to deal with losing him to death?" It's as though the only thing that justifies legitimate grief is death. I know the grief I feel is real... The not having answers, or wondering if we will ever reconcile feels like I'm living in limbo everyday.... wanting to have hope, but afraid to hope.

Grief continues on, even in the reconciliation process, the sense of losing a relationship that will never be the same, that may be awkward, tentative, that may involve re emergence of anger, mistreatment, and more that parents felt when initially being cut off. There is no return to normal, in my experience, but a rebuilding that involves alot of emotion.

I am still going through the process and the grief is so real. My situation is my daughter has depression anxiety and ptsd, plus she has lupus. She misuses her medication. We are in constant levels of emotion. She lives with us.. Thank you for sharing your words of encouragement.

Thanks for a very needed call today and your helpful advice. Also, for the first time in my life I have had trouble sleeping due to repetitive thoughts about my grandson and this situation. Headaches and racing heart, too. Thanks for bringing this to light as it has been concerning. I am watching your other videos to get more hints in resolving this. Bless you.

I have started to watch all of your videos going all the way back...I have a question, with this grief, how many parents have said they became suicidal because of the amount of pain they are dealing with? It's very hard to go through pain like this and pain from multiple directions. I am curious of how deep the pain gets from this from other peoples experience... Looking forward to the zoom next week
