Take a box that will put your leg at roughly 90 degrees. If the box is higher, the exercise will be more a glute exercise. If the box is lower, the exercise will target more of the quads. Drive through the posted glute, chest is straight and abs are braced.

Keep tension in the top leg at all times... Don't straighten it at the top, leave a slight bend
