As a fellow Southerner, can confirm.
My dad always scoffed at the story of Cujo because the idea of a rabid dog wasn't scary. He'd say "You know what would happen if that happened in the South? 'Oh, there's a rabid dog there-' BOOM!"

To be fair, we could say that for all slasher villains. Why nobody just shoots them is lost on me. I think the only two slasher that actually get shot are Jason and Michael. Jason is undead so it doesn't effect him as much. Michael is protected by plot armor and will never die for that reason.

The only thing that bugged me when watching Friday the 13th was, why doesn't everyone either hop in their cars and drive out of there when they find Jason killing people or just straight up run back down the road they came in to Crystal Lake. Only one movie ever shows that they potentially could escape by vehicle (but was thwarted by gangsters of all things) and Jason doesn't even seem to care. He just wants people to leave Camp Crystal Lake. So it bugged me why nobody just went back out down the road instead of just hiding in the woods or cabins.

I remember watching any movie with a home invasion and thinking "go get your gun" while being super irritated lol. I was under the assumption that no matter who you were, you would have a home defense firearm that you would keep in a nightstand and not move it in case of emergency.
