Some people are complaining in the comments saying that this does not work and that it messes up your computer. I've done it and my computer is completely fine. If you do not do it correctly, you will definitely mess up your PC because if the user folder is not accesible, for whatever reason, your computer will not be able to login to the account.

In any case, going back to what you had is pretty easy.

PS: I've done this only on a local account. I haven't tried it with a Microsoft account because I will never use that sh*t.

if you cannot rename the user folder, just create new user with adm permission, restart pc, log on new user, rename folder, logout and enter on user of renamed folder and works!

You must use another user as administrator in order to rename the original one. And you must sign out of the current user you want to rename

Follow all of these steps but when you make the second account DONT NAME IT WHAT YOU WANT TO USE AS THE NAME ON THE ORIGINAL. Then switch the second account, run cmd and find SID for original account and follow steps in regedit. Restart pc then log BACK IN as SECOND account. Using the second account, go back to the file explorer and find the user folder with the old original name on it. You can only edit id youre signed in to the second account. After making sure you change the name to what you put in regedit, switcj accounts to original. THIS IS HOW I GOT IT TO WORK

This has literally broken my brand new DellXPS laptop, I'm fuming. How can I fix this? I followed the steps as described above to rename the folder, but when it came to the actual folder itself I could not change the name. Now I cannot even log in and the laptop is not functioning properly.
