Be Careful When Taking Algebra 2 In the 10th Grade

When kids take Algebra I in the 8th grade and Geometry in the Freshman year, a unique problem can occur. Since they haven't seen Algebra for over 1 year when they get to 10th grade, sometimes kids struggle in Algebra 2 and get a bad grade. This is something that parents need to watch our for and here's what they can do:

1. Take Khan Academy classes in the summer before
2. Review the material with the teacher before start of school
3. Have a tutor or coach ready just in case..

i took geomertry in my freshmen year and had a horrible teacher and dont remeber anyting in that class but so far into my sophmore year i really enjoy math again, nothing over the top difficult or confusing, my teacher is actually making everyone understand on what were doing and know how to do it.

I took Math 6/7(Pre Algebra) in 6th grade, took algebra 1 in 7th grade, took geometry over the summer, and im taking algebra 2 in 8th grade. I had a really hard time in the first few weeks because of set notation and functions, but I relearned it. Its pretty hard, but Im excited to take Math Analysis next year.

Exactly! I actually took algebra I again in 9th grade (I took it In 8th grade.) I will do geo In 10th grade, and algebra 2 over the summer. The info will still be fresh. Also khan academy helps.

Thank you for your advice it really helped me! I’m an 8th grader going into high school next year I’ve been doing good in math and I’m forecasting for classes my school is a charter middle school so it’s a little different. At my school we have to talk to are teachers about what class to talk and so I asked and he said that he think I should go to geometry!!!! I’m so happy!!!!

Im going into honors algebra 2 in 2 weeks when I start 10th grade, so thank you for the khan academy advice. I don't know if 2 weeks is enough time to refresh my knowledge of algebra 1, but I'll see!

i’m scared because i’m taking honors geometry and honors algebra 2 at the same time as a sophomore. we took a small test on the first day to see what we remember and i had just taken algebra 1 the previous year so i thought i’d be okay. I end up getting a 3/20 and even though everyone else seemed to struggle too it still made me nervous because everyone was getting at least above 5 correct. i don’t want to be the only one not knowing what i’m doing if the teacher calls on me for a problem.
