In this video, I'm diving back into the misunderstood world of EQ and how to use it with fuzz to get better, different, or unique fuzz tones. On this one I'm using the fuzzface and the big muff pi.

Comment below with what you like to run with your fuzzes for better or unique tones

John Frusciante & Brian Wampler in the same week ~ welcome back, sir!

Damn. That was _super_ useful. I've heard myself drop out of the mix when engaging the fuzz, but it never occurred to me to put an EQ after it.

Again it’s proved that small EQ changes on merely a few bands make a huge improvement. Nice video, thanks a lot :) // Wince

Unhappy mouth eq setting after fuzz to stand out more in the mix.

I use a frowning GE-7 before a Big Muff as a lead boost. Now you've twisted my arm into getting a second as a fuzz shaper. You're a bad man (THANKS!)

I'm always hearing people say that a buffer before a fuzz messes up the sound, but I honestly thought the fuzz tone *with* the buffer sounded better in both cases. It's like taking a blanket off the speaker

so nice to see you back! Keep doing videos in whatever pace you like.

My personal "trick" with an EQ pedal is that I use a midi controlled Boss EQ-200 with four different presets with a midi loop switcher. This makes my single channel amp, using just a booster and the EQ pedal, more flexible than most multi-drive pedal boards.

I generally have a boost pedal "always on" for my main sound, and use the volume control to clean up a bit when needed.

If I need crystal cleans, I use the EQ setting 1 with boosted highs and volume in the effects loop, using the loop switcher to also disable the otherwise always on boost.

For more distorted rhythm, I use the setting 2 with scooped mids and more volume in front of the always on boost.

For solos, I have a setting 3 mid boost in the effects loop with the always on boost.

Finally. I have a a "lo fi" setting with cut lows and mids in the effects loop for when I want the bass player to cut through.

I love my EQ-200! And my Friedman Buxom Betty Boost. That "tight" control just makes it so easy to set up a nice fat sound. It's the perfect pedal for any single channel amp user.

Holy crap- This is a great trick! I'm all about fuzz and have been playing for many years, I've never used an EQ for fuzz like this, but you've really got me looking at adding an EQ to my board again! Thanks so much!

That makes so much sense, I've got to experiment more with the pedals I use.... and the order.

Just gonna say, this is a life saver for anyone who buys guitars with built in buffers, like the music man cutlass

This is great! I haven't considered using an EQ after a fuzz.

One of the greatest, and perhaps most overlooked distortion pedals is the old Akai G-Drive. It had two 6-band graphic EQ sections; one before the clipping section, and one after.

I use the Orange pedal baby amp and get most my tone from my pedals. The pedal baby doesn't have much of an EQ and you just made me realize an EQ pedal is a must on my pedalboard now. Love the videos man!

welcome back!! i have a big muff wicker, and it was my first fuzz. i was upset when i got lost in the mix when i tried to play it with my band for the first time, but felt better when i learned that it was something normal to come across. i love videos like these that help me work around it. thank you!!

Plot twist: he was moving mic placement the whole time. Glad to have you back man!

Great video! I like to use a "klon like" pedal, set as a clean boost, after my 73 rams head fuzz, sounds great and it's really helpful to cut the mix.

Love that tone wicker big muff! I use it on my pedal board with a musicom loop switcher with input buffer off, but output buffer on and still really happy with the way it sounds. Great video, cheers!
