Why Weren't the Potter Family on the Sacred 28? - Harry Potter Explained

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’re discussing The Sacred Twenty-Eight. More specifically, we’ll be diving in to WHY the Potter family were excluded from this ‘exclusive’ list.

Let’s start with the most obvious question: What is The Sacred Twenty-Eight? Well, as you may already know, it’s actually more a question of WHO, rather than WHAT. Alright, so WHO exactly are they and how did they come to be?

The Sacred Twenty-Eight is a “Pure-Blood Directory” of the wizarding world’s supposed most pure-blooded magical families – which is to say, the witches and wizards whose ancestors had not “muddied” their blood lines with Muggle integration. A ‘Pure-blood’ was classified as a witch or wizard who had no muggles, squibs, muggle-borns or half-bloods in their family tree.

But while the list does indeed account for 28 pure-blood wizarding families, it’s worth noting that one of the most FAMOUS surnames in Harry Potter- you guessed it..POTTER- is excluded from the list. The Potter’s were pure-blood’s, weren’t they? Why were they excluded from this prestigious list?

Henry Potter (known as Harry to his friends), also served in the Wizengamot from 1913 to 1921. He condemned the Minister for Magic at the time,  Archer Evermonde, for forbidding the magical community from helping the Muggles fighting during the First World War. His outspokenness on behalf of the Muggle community, along with the fact that Potter is also a relatively common surname in the Muggle world, led to the exclusion of the Potter family from the 'Sacred Twenty-Eight' list.

Plus, human- and wizard-kind did come from a common ancestor. So technically, the "Sacred 28" aren't really all that sacred. I know a family that has the surname Black, so if Sirius' family really wanted to, they could've been like, "Yo, we're totally not witches and wizards."

If the Potters were excluded because of the name "Potter" also being used by Muggles, why weren't the "Blacks". Frankly "Black" is probably more common in the Muggle World than "Potter". AS are the names "Burke", "Abbott" and "MacMillan", wile the names "Lestrange", "Flint", "Parkinson", "Travers", "Crouch" and "Avery" are not unknown in the Muggle World.
If that's the ONLY explanation why the "Potters" were excluded, there must be some deeper reason why the others were Included.... (related to the Author, or am I just being cynical?)

I agree that the Potter bloodline would had oppose to the idea of being "pure blood royalty" or "pure bloods supremacy" list.

Don’t forget the surname Smith, which is another common surname in the Muggle world. Could the Muggle Smiths be descendants of Helga Hufflepuff, like the Wizarding Smiths?

So either there were witches and wizards along with the first humans, cro magnons. Or every witch and wizard comes from 'tainted' blood.

It's funny that the malfoys hate muggles so much. Considering they are wealthy because their ancestors worked with muggles.

Could the Wizarding Potters be related to the Muggle Potters? Distant relatives perhaps? If so, could Beatrix Potter (the author of Peter Rabbit) have some magical blood in her?

Why is it despicable? It merely relays a genealogy...Factual or Not.

because they integrated with muggles and mudbloods which invalidates their claim of being the sacred 28, the sacred 28 is for Purebloods, not rabble
