The Superbug Doomsday Plague

In my opinion one of the biggest growing threats to human life is currently superbugs, technically known as antibiotic resistant bacteria, this is where bacteria has become resilient to antibiotics and becomes untreatable due to the over use of antibiotics as treatments and within the meat industry.

Scary stuff, i've seen those ads too, i bloody hope they create some more antibiotics in my life time, lol, i would do what you said - stay in house etc, i'd go as far to barricade myself in a room with food and water if i had too.

good video this needs to be public knowledge and in hospitals they have posters saying "save antibiotics for the future". Also scientist may have found a stronger antibiotic but hopefully this is kept in control when it happens in the future I herd like 10 years time it could happen.

It is all true with Antibiotics, i have a lung condition, and those like me find they work half as effective in some cases .With me it was like a switch clicked in 2008 and then i needed double doses .Mass animal farming like that should be banned because thats the main issue

While reading through the Judge Dredd Series of comics, in "Day of Chaos", there's one major story line that sort of relates to the superbug/plague. In the story a highly organized terror group from the debunked Soviet Block release a homemade virus on MegaCity One and all hell breaks loose. After Reading that I kinda got chills (the story of course dips into fantasy and plot conveniences for story sake) but left me thinking about how real and effective something like that could have on our modern world. The extremes that had Judge Dredd and the militant police force had to go through were best case scenario and still only was so effective. I can't imagine today, with how ineffective and low motivated the government would be to try and contain the issue so that it would benefit the nation and not just the ruling power. I always think, while working in retail, how many people come to work sick and how many people interact with each other has the potential to spread common viruses to loads of people. Interesting topic of discussion. I always question: Is it worth; living in Chicago, to maybe try and prep for that possibility or because of how lucky as a human species overall would we end up dodging a 'world ending' scenario like we have for so many years.

In the US, in addition to livestock use, it is definitely mostly an over-prescribing issue. The doctors here give you antibiotics kind of like it is par for the course.

The reason antibiotic bacteria are such a pain is multifold but its mostly bureaucratic ignorance.
1. There is a lack of proper sanitation and/or bans on industrial farming practices that promote antibiotic resistant bacteria.
2. We tend to over use antibiotics and use just one antibiotic instead of multiple for infections giving them an easier way of achieving resistance.
3. Pharmaceutical companies haven't been researching new antibiotics.
4. Bacteriophages are banned if not completely underutilized in medicine which is ridiculous.
5. Proper hygiene and preventative measures can greatly reduce the risks but as Westerners we've forgotten or not been taught properly how.

Another thing is Flu jabs have caused this as well as miss use of antibiotics as in Australia a flu has built up a resistance to the jabs. Its better to let your immune system strengthen itself naturally.
