We did a practice drill- no heat, no lights, no water. It was a reality check.
My take: have lots of canned food ( heat and eat stuff) for the transition, have a couple large water drum barrels for water, have some comfort snacks ( hard candy or hot chocolate are two examples), have a comfortable way to sleep- forget synthetic sheets/ comforter on a bed in an unheated room (it felt like an ice slab)….. I could go on and on. I learned that prepping is easy and living a prepper situation is tough. Takes practice and I suggest practicing. You wont thank me but you will learn what works best for you and your family. And by the end of our practice I learned how much I love a hot bath, fresh bread, and hot coffee. 🙃

I’ve been prepping for the past couple of years. This year I stepped it up with the outrageous food prices and started buying freeze dried food with a 25 year shelf life I’m concentrating mainly on meats right now but each month buying a couple of cans of fruits and vegetables I’m a single woman on a fixed income but I see the value in this even if all around me call me crazy

I’m lucky that my parents were depression era folks that grew up in the Missouri ozarks. They had a hard life and practiced the old ways of growing and preserving food. My mom taught me a lot, and although I’m not nearly as tough as she was, she was a great mentor❤️

My wife and I have been prepping for quite some time, and we have canned food everywhere in our house—in dressers and clothes closets, even (I don’t know how a side of beef would do hanging next to a suit, though). We’ve even gone out and prepped for our cats. Make sure you consider your pets in your prepping!

Flour, rice, dried beans, pasta, cooking oil. It is easy to keep years of these staples in your house if you have storage space. We have a hundred pounds of rice and flour, when we use up a bag we buy another and it goes to the bottom of the pile. We have lots of canned food. and lots of frozen food. Don't buy "survival food" buy food you're going to eat anyway and constantly rotate your supply of canned goods.

I’ve been prepping for 10 months and I’ve worked my preps up to 12 months, I know it’s never enough. Watching this video; things can become overwhelming, yes even to someone who is pretty well preped. I can’t even imagine what it’s like for those just starting out. I use to do many marathons and normally my training would begin at least 16 weeks out, The couple of times that I pushed off my training to just 8 weeks out… I paid the price during my marathon. So will it be with those starting late; which I believe that time has come.
