Modem vs Router | What is the difference?

A modem is required to get a connection to the internet from your home network. It allows access for a single wired device.

A router provides WiFi and allows you to connect more devices on your network.

There are 2 types of modems: Cable and DSL.

Alright, so you need both or get a combo. That’s all I really needed to know, was not difficult to answer. Thank you.

Can you use a MoCa adapter to connect directly from the wall to a router?
If not, what hardware does the modem have that the router doesnt?
Where I am the internet is through 1 company only and they allow any modems/routers to be used.

This video could have been WAAYYY shorter if you didn’t repeat everything like 3 times.

Now how do I test a used modem without having to plug it into the wall?

Got about 30 seconds worth of information for a 15 minute video. Repeats simple concepts about 10 times, as if we didn't get it the first time, yet throws around acronyms like DHCP without explanation. Doesn't actually explain the difference between a modem and a router, only tells you how to tell which is which, and how to plug in the cables.

Excellent explanation. Question: are you able to connect the router to the modem/router so as to extend WiFi strength?
