Your videos are so helpful, especially for Australians. Love the content.

I am moving and think im going to go with Aussie Broadband. Its FTTN which means ill need a VDSL2 modem/router from what ive understood. Would any one work? Do you recommend any?

i connected finally to FTTN last week, getting 98/40 sync speeds which is awesome from my 3.5/1 adsl connection. i am using iinet modem and a netgear xr500 router through aussie broadband and its actually awesome!, would like to stick with my old d6200 netgear modem, but having problems connecting to NBN with that one.

Thank you, thank you. You've just answered the question I have been searching for last few days and couldn't get a definitive answer. Can you connect a mesh router directly to the FTTP wall box without the need for a modem?- yes you can. Halleluiah

Hey. Looking at buying the ASUS RT-AX88U AX6000. We are on NBN with iiNet. Will this router connect to the NBN without hassle?

Look forward to your video about Bridging.Just got NBN connected (HFC).Couldn't hook up my R7000, had to bridge it with the piss weak Modem-Router the RSP sent me (locked).

Great video again. I purchased the Fritz Box 7490 at a reduced price than anywhere else from my RSP and have 4 Fritz Fons with 9 VoIP numbers running on FTTN. During the first 18 months after roll-out had continues drop-outs but they settled these days. Am 365 mt to Node and get 93/34 any time of the day ( NO, I hate FTTN ). Am streaming 24/7 on the net and this modem handles very well. Just had a software update and can now use MESH. Also the Fons software update allow you to block any scammer/mother-in-law ( joking ) numbers from any handset. Allows you to get alerts from Android app when someone has call home/office and listen to any messages. Now also supports 4G ( was only 3G ) backup modems ( well you need that with FTTN ).

I'd like to see a video on repurposing an old computer into a modem/router. And a question I've got for u, is at what point does a computer become a modem/router? Is it just the NICs that I've been reading about?

Hi mate,

Is there any single-purpose modem compatible with nbn. Otherwise, what would you recommend me to do because I'd like to get a cheap computer to install pfsense and make it work as a router.

Thanks,

Eduardo

I would be interested in negotiation times of modems. Being on FTTN, 1.3Km from the node (advised by the NBN tech after an ombudsman dispute), the signal drops out five or six times a day when it's windy (wires above ground). Not so bad when it's calm but we live in Hobart so... Usually, the ISP supplied modem/router takes 3 mins 40 secs to renegotiate the connection. Are there better modems that can reconnect more quickly? (I've given up trying to get the connection improved having already been around the merrygoround before). Alternatively, what about an automatic failover to 4G? 4G is twice as fast as my NBN in these parts but isn't feasible permanently due to cost per Mb. Thanks.
