Good points, also just because you have their router doesn't necessarily guarantee speeds, it's up to the contract you have. Also, you could opt to sell your modem after one year of use, recouping most of the cost and a net positive.

I think there is also a third factor to consider - which I think I'm making my decision on.. the technology if you're in 2-year contracts. If I lease, then when the techology changes, I don't have a brick that I have to figure out what to do with, as I would if I bought. The difference between what I would pay if I lease vs. buy is $60 more when leasing (over the 2 year period). Thats worth it to me to wash my hands of the equipment and/or get upgraded equipment in 2 years.

Would you know how to enter engineering mode on the note 8 running pie? I would like to try to increase the volume without an app

I lease my modem/router because it was less headache for me. I had to install it myself but my service provider has a great access/how-to install setup "site" that made that simple for a non-techy like me! And now that it's installed, if I ever have a problem with it, I give them a call & they help me fix it. Most good modem/router combos that I was looking at on Amazon were about $130-150 (I go with products with a 4+star rating with at least 100 reviews when it come to tech stuff, if possible), so it was a fair deal to lease one, in my opinion. ✌💜😄 Tish

Your ISPs modem and router isn't necessarily the most up-to-date equipment. They tend to reuse equipment from customer to customer. You would get the most out of your internet service by buying your own modem and router. Get them separately and not as a combo. Make sure the modem you choose is compatible with your ISP. When it comes to modems, I would recommend the Motorola Surfboard series. When it comes to routers, I would recommend Linksys or Netgear routers.
