Sam Reid Masterful Acting - Interview With The Vampire AMC (Balcony Scene)

Showrunner Rolin Jones personal favorite moment in the finale:
My favorite scene in there is the balcony scene. It's so screwed up. Lestat is such a weirdo. [Laughs.] But there is such a desperate longing in there. Sam's playing about five things in that scene.
And it was one of those things that was buried in the edit room because the sound was really bad. We had crazy wind, we had a train and plane [noise]. It wasn't in the first editors cut and then the episode got a little short. The editor, Leo Trombetta, did Episodes 1 and 7. He's a master and knew we had sound issues so he hadn't seen the scene for like three weeks. We played it back and then he got all weepy. So we made a bunch of calls to our sound people at Universal to reconstruct it. Everybody kind of stopped their work and looked at it and we put it back in. That's also one single take that we're using of Sam, with the worst original sound possible.

A.Rice created Lestat and immortalized him through her writing and Sam is immortalizing him through his memorable and flawless performance.
He manages to give structure, shape and a captivating voice to him, to make that his imperfections look perfect, to velvet his brutalities, to empower his weaknesses, to reveal his pains through those eyes that speak.
There will be none like this Lestat.
Super thumbs up D.

the fact that Lestat knew Louis wanted him dead here kills me

The way they just looked at each other like they knew something was gonna unfold

his acting is actually all subtext... listening to this beautiful speech, I can see Lestat's journey from Europe to New Orleans, how and why he fell in love with the city, how he discovered Louis and fell in love with him, how he knows that they plan to kill him and he is somehow begging him to let him live because he deserves to be alive... this is absolute perfection

Rescued from the cutting room floor, made the editor of the episode cry and the others he showed it to, but the audio from the scene had plane and train noises in the background, called in a request to the audio people, audio department cleaned up the sound and put this one take performance by Sam back in the episode. Perfection.

He really is a big fan of the books and the character lestat, and I'm so glad that he finally gets to portray him in such an incredible way, i can't seem to think any other actor who could play lestat as he does

They both made me belive this was a real happening. Louie guilt ridden look... so much talent on this show. They put blood sweat and tears into this masterpiece. I cant barely wait for season 3!

Damn you, Lestat! He caused Louis and Claudia such pain but I felt for him because the entire time he's speechifying he's searching Louis' face like, "Is he really going to go through with this?" Lestat deserved it but man was hurt that Louis was really proceeding.

He is Lestat through and through. I will never see another actor as him again. Exactly what I hoped for when I read the books as a teenager❤

I knew Sam Reid was an incredible actor when I first saw him in The Newsreader. He was amazing alongside Anna Torv. I knew then he was one of “those” actors- like Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett and Edward Norton. So I’m blown away by his performance as my favourite Brat Prince but not surprised he could deliver such a deep and realistic performance of him. Sam should be placed with the same calibre of actors as Streep and co.

It still catches me off guard how beautiful Jacob is in a wig & makeup. Also, that Sam does not shine prettily in the opposite direction. Sans, makeup aside from the scene, Sam is luminous. But when he's made to look like he's wearing makeup, his features are more harsh. Online their height descriptions put them more than 6" apart but that can't be. Sam is taller but does not tower over everyone. The talen on this show is so good! I'm obsessed. I can hear my own heart dancing! ❤❤❤❤❤😊

As we know Lestat knew what would unfold next, I can't help but see in his mannerisms some type of sad desperation that silently begs Louis not to do it. Even Louis foreshadowing line "the king's hair (heir) has betrayed the king" creates a subtle tension between the two, yeah Lestat knew it wasn't gonna be any other way, but something in his eyes TRIED. And as headstrong as he is, of course he wouldn't say much else to Louis, because he loves him that way, always letting it have it his way.

1:50 'the eyes, chico' I can literally hear Lestat’s heart shattering into million pieces in this moment, sam had outdone even himself with this performance
