I so appreciate you for doing these. You really explain in detail, unlike a lot of people. Thank you for your hard work 😁

So helpful, thank you so much! I never thought of doing this and am so excited to try <3. I've watched a couple of your videos now and find them really helpful, easy to follow, and well-made. Please keep them coming! I'm very new to sewing and am waiting for that "spark" or easy pattern that really gets me going. If you have any advice, I'd love to hear it! My dream is to sew my own clothes.

Think I've watched this video before. Can't remember if I've commented on it, though. But, I wanna say how I appreciate your instructions here. I've often wondered if it mattered about the width and length of the zig zag stitch when you use it for serging. Have also wondered about the over casting stitch as well. TYSM for sharing your techniques and knowledge with us. Love your channel. 😻👍😍

Thank you for explaining the way to do it I would like to get a serger but they cost so much money but until I can get one I can do this it might take extra time doing my project but at least I can do this for now

Three thread serging also does well. Been a while since I looked into new sergers as mine is still working beautifully after 31 years. All I've done is have it timed and replaced the knife once. If have a basic machine, just turn the dial.

I've been sewing at the beginner level for years but I'm trying to take my sewing skills to the next level by tackling a specific (McCall's) pattern that is rated for a slightly higher skilled sewer. I'm planning to sign up for a few of your virtual private sewing lessons so I can address some of the confusing instructions that I'm encountering.

Imagine how fabulous it was in the 50s to be able to finish your edges with a zig zag stitch instead of binding, hemming, pinking, or French seaming! I found an overcasting cam and foot for my Singer Rocketeer, so those things have been around for a while. I have my mom’s pinking shears, which she guarded like a hawk, lest I was tempted to cut paper with them, lol.

Could you do a How-To Video on how to smock a garment?

Want to know why I never bought a serger? Trauma at age 19. I had a needle get the edge of my finger, on a serger. This was 1988. I have been more than happy, with my regular singer sewing machine. I took that incident, as a sign, I did not need a serger. I have been sewing, since I was 7, on a sewing machine. I was hand sewing, at age 4, for my Barbie. Sergers do make some sewing, easier. I prefer not to get injured.

I think you can do zig zag first then go with the overcast and maybe it will look more like a serge stitch 😉

Since the serger cuts off fabric, do you need to first trim the fabric before doing these replacement stitches on a sewing machine?

My Janome machine always eats the fabric and or tunnels when I try this. I’ve changed thread, tension, needles, used different feet. Even quilting cotton does this on my machine. Do some machines just not do see over the edge and back smoothly?

I like the Velma glasses. Do you go sleuthing too?

I'm having a hard time doing this with my fabric. It's like a satin or charmeuse. The fabric is so thin, and the edges are so frayed, that it keeps going wrong.
