Just came by to help update this information.

I picked up my Steam Deck OLED back in April of 2024. I have no idea when it was manufactured so my best guess is somewhere between late 2023 and early 2024.

That being said, the part about removing the interconnect cable from the motherboard shield was sort of irrelevant to me as Valve had made it very easy to access the two T6x3.5mm Torx screws that hold the motherboard shield in place, eliminating the possibility of damaging the interconnect cable. All I did was take the screws out and move the entire shield assembly and interconnect cable enough out of the way that I could access the SSD.

As for the process of getting the SSD in, I would recommend using an M.2 external enclosure and using balena etcher 1.18.11 to clone your current SSD to the newer, larger capacity one instead of the rather convoluted reimaging process Valve outline. Do this all BEFORE tearing apart your Steam Deck OLED though.

Can you make a video on how to replace the audio board for the Steam Deck OLED. Many people who bought them when they released have an audio board that is not grounded. I wanna replace mine but I would not know how to do so.

The motherboard shield should really have a little cutout where the battery is connected, as the battery should be the first/last thing you disconnect/connect without any obstacles...

There are 3 screws you need to remove then replace, not 2. Also, removing the adhesive from the cable is completely unnecessary.

I somehow broke something on the board which crippled the Steam Deck to a crawl in performance. As a result, I've been afraid to touch the original SSD ever since I payed to get it repaired.

assuming one is upgrading to a larger SSD on an SSD steam deck and not the chud version, couldn’t one just clone the existing drive to the larger replacement?

having replaced the SSD and thermal paste on my oled deck i really wish steam would get out of the habit of taping and gluing fragile little wires to things, terrible practice and completely unnecessary

This is the first time I've heard OLED being pronounced as O-L-E-D.
