Hello Internet and welcome to the video that shows you how to upgrade your laptop processor by removing and installing the CPU old to new. Many laptops will be just like this however there may be some laptops that do not need to be torn down so far. Some laptops have processors that are scoldiered in place so be sure to look up your laptop specifications to get processor information and try to find the CPU Socket information. If you have a socket you most likely can replace your laptop CPU. The upgrade in this video overall is just adding an additional core. IT WORKD OUT GREAT! Now i can task the laptop processor with TWO things at once and bam, getting it done. You may also consider a hard drive replacement to SSD drive because that will make your computer super fast compared to not having an SSD. Can you upgrade a laptop processor? It is likely!

The manufacturer may label the CPU socket as LGA (pins on motherboard & replaceable), PGA (pins on CPU & replaceable), or BGA (Soldered to motherboard)

It's not just the number of cores, it's many many things that impact performance. More cores allow for more programs to run at the background (i.e. lots of windows background threads)
Higher clocks, and higher instructions per clock cycle allow a thread to be run faster.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ56. Do you think that same processor would work in mine? It seems yours is only a slightly newer model. Thanks for any reply.

I have a CQ71 for my everyday use, still pulling its weight but a bit slow. Has Celeron dual core T3000 1.8ghz (socket:pga478) Found two 4gb ram sticks a while back so now i have a whopping 8gb ram. Those little suckers are very hard to find. Don`t know why i didn`t think of upgrading the cpu before now. Any tips on what cpu upgrade would be ideal for me?

quick question, what i remember back in the day was cpu for laptops were soldered onto the motherboard and i never open a laptop because of this, and everyone used to say you cant upgrade a laptop the way u can for a desktop except for HDD and the ram and now im seeing u can just remove it like a desktop. My question is did they stop soldering them onto the motherboard? do some do that still? would be nice to upgrade the cpu

Hi, I have an LGA 1150, and the notches don't align with the new CPU that I purchased. What happens if I remove the notches and put in the cpu anyways? I bought an i5-3470 cpu (for the PC version). The power source takes up only about 60 watts, or about 7 watts higher than my current processor's power requirement: the pentium g360 (about 53 watts) for the Laptop.

Is it ok to remove the notches and install this specific cpu? Please let me know, I don't want to break anything. Thanks!
