I just re-watched the scene multiple times . Yoda never retrieves his saber after his loss to darth sidious, what were seeing is his communication device, which he used to contact Senator Bail. He had two items on his belt after the fight, his communication device, which is sliver in color, and his homing beacon

As far as i know, the higher ranking jedi had 2-3 lightsabers in total so it's possible he picked up his second/ backup lightsaber

Yoda having two lightsabers seems believable for anything prepared he is

It makes sense. He was a nearly 1000 year old Jedi master, the current grand master and he has a troubled warrior past. His fighting style is one of high agility, employing leaps to attack from multiple angles in a short time. It makes sense that he would have a trump card like a second Saber for duel wielding

Luke took the old saying of "You'll get my gun when you take it from my cold Dead hands" literal and took the lightsaber from Yoda's cold, dead hands.

Given Yoda’s preference for Form IV, I can see him wielding two lightsabers in his youth. By the time of the High Republic era he no longer used both of them, so it likely sat in his private quarters for many years. Either he retrieved it when he and Obi-Wan returned to the temple or (and the most likely in my opinion) he recovered the lightsaber he had during his duel with Palpatine, and the one that Mas Amedda throws into the furnace was the lightsaber that Yoda had stored away in his quarters for at least 200+ years.
This makes more sense to me because if he had both lightsabers why not use them against Darth Sidious, or pull out the second one after being disarmed? Then again he didn’t really have time since he was already defeated and no longer had the strength to make another attempt against Darth Sidious.

I've always assumed each Jedi create multiple lightsabers at the end of each trial of their Jedi graduation. One for the end of padawan, Knighthood, and Master. So Yoda's lightsaber Luke got would be Yoda's knighthood lightsaber.

Yoda had multiple sabers to deal with anyone catching him with his ketamine.

From what I know he actually just constructed an identical lightsaber whilst in exile on Dagobah. His original was destroyed along with any remaining sabers from the temple

Originally i have no doubt that was an error but it really works now that we have two contradicting fates for the saber as to why he never used both i would say he normally only carried one but given what was going on this was the jedi order's darkest hour so he probably grabbed his spare from his room in the temple just in case

I always assumed that it was propaganda. Nobody ever said ‘yeah we killed yoda’ to the emperor so as a way to increase propaganda efficacy he just faked yoda’s lightsaber.
