this is a game-changer for having wireless mobile function, but at the same time having the power of PC when you want it

For those benefits I think it's absolutely worth it.

I am getting the official cable, being from an IT background I will take fiber over copper transmission every time. Also, I see it as future-proofing. As VR takes off, even more, the demands for data transmission will be greater. Will a copper transmission suffice? Am not sure. So, yeah am going for the official cable.

I haven't found any info about the cables charging function. I believe it must be a hybrid fiber cable, part cobber and part fiber optic, as a pure fiber optic cable can't transfer power.

Ordered Thursday. Came today. Rip off Britain, though. £89. However, I can now take down my CV1 sensors and retire the old Rift. Thanks old Buddy, you have served me well.

I've been playing with Oculus Cable for about a week now. Like everyone has stated, there really isn't a visual performance increase that i could tell from the generic cable you get off of amazon for a lot less. The only major difference is that i can actually charge and use the Quest at the same time which is great. I do anticipate future updates to increase performance through the Link also but for now...may wanna save your money.

I have the usb cables and hate it. Find them so stiff and always worry about it bending on the connection on my Quest. The link cable is a win right away for me. Price is super high but its fiber cable and not copper which is also very future proof.

The only way to actually compare third party cables to this official cable is to stress out the performance with the Oculus debug tool. Otherwise, you won't be making the most of the smaller latency of the official one. Have you tried this? Is the Pixel per display Pixel or the encoding width constraining the experience the same way on both cables? That's my question here.

I'm using HAMA 00183343, it's USB 3.1 - usb-c 3m cable

Thank you so much for offering your actual opinion in a review. Other channels basically did a summary and a watered down take. I'll be saving a lot of money right now with an extension and anker! Great review!

1:23 : It's great to see how they fu.. us in Europe...

If you convert $79, it's the equivalent of 70€ / 60£ instead 79€ / 79£.
£70 is the equivalent of 92€... so for the same product you could have a difference of 20€, depending where you buy it :-/

This feature is really great as extends Quest potential use scenarios. You take it to friend with laptop? wireless. You use it at your home and have some good Geforce card, then with cable. I am looking forward to Quest 2, actually. I quess this will be with the newest XR2 chip from Qualcomm in the second half of 2020 or even Autumn.

It's worth the money. You should buy it

do a teardown of the official cable, I doubt there is any fiber optic cables inside.

Can you do the same test but with Quest 2? It would be interesting if the compression is still limited to 100MB on the Q2. Given that the Q2 is a replacement for CV1 and Rift S then there should be no compression now. Does this mean that the Link Cable is now a must?

No way am I paying £89 for a cable, I'll carry on with the cable I've got

Can someone explain why anyone would want a right angle Type-C cable for the Quest? Wouldn't make more sense to use a downward angle connector that way the cable lines up with the strap? It's what I use and it works pretty dam well.
