Running an ultramarathon is no joke. It requires lots of training or else it's going to be a bad time. Consistency is key. Here's how I do it.

Alright Coach. 10, 000 single-leg squat reps & as much food as I can eat. Got it.

A lot of good advice. I’m on the journey to my first ultra 50k. started running at 245lbs back in May, race is in November so look forward to hopefully just completing it. Haha

Great advice Luke, the quality of your racing is shown by how disciplined you are with your training.
Keep up the good work!

Agree about the gym. By virtue of the programming heading into UTA last year my gym had us doing lunges, body weight and weight squads and it just strengthened the legs for the countless stairs. I pulled up the best I ever had out of the 3 ultras I’d done.

Finally, some real, straight to the point advices (that are actually useful). Thank you!

Great video mate.

You got me onto Precision and I couldn’t be happier to no longer needing to shop around for race supps.

Really love this video, I've been scouring Youtube for something that hit right and this was it, so thanks so much Luke! I'm gonna run an ultra VERY soon

Im glad there you spoke of the importance of strength training. I find when im consistently adding heavy loaded single leg squats it makes running up a steep ass hill that much easier

This was a great to the point video. I've run one half-marathon, and my main goal is an ultra, but your point about respecting the distance rings true for me. I've got a lot of work to do before I would feel ready for an ultra. It's nice to have something to work towards.

Great video, just found your channel and subscribed. I love the eating part of ultras. To acclimate my stomach, I just eat anything and everything before my easy or long runs. I never want to get to an aid station, see something incredibly delicious there, and be like "no, nothing new on race day... 😢". So far the only hard passes for me are acidic, like tomato sauce, or fish, or anything too spicy. I've housed whole bowlfulls of mac n cheese with keilbasa and bacon, with zero issues. The chili on top caused some heartburn though. 😂

Makes sense to me, thx! I’d add to focus on potential equipment needed (like poles/backpack) and get familiar with that during training

Great video mate, I even passed it on to a friends brother who is just starting to train for his first ultra. Would love some future videos that dive deeper into both the nutrition and gym stuff!

1:22 shout-out to couch to 5k! We all have to start somewhere and that’s where I started. Still remember the feeling of hitting 5k for the first time in my life. Amazing! What a gift.

Great video. I’ve just signed up for a 2 day 60mile ultra (30 miles or 48 km a day) through the forests and over the mountains of the Isle of Arran in scotland.

I’m completely new to running but decided to jump in head first and really test myself. I’m doing it in memory of my dad who passed away in March and raising money for prostate cancer uk.

I’ve got until April to train for it so let’s go!
