Many ways to sharpen and I think you have to find your own combination of methods - if you haven't tried, be prepared to stick at it before you can get a good edge. The only thing I'd say is, using a grinding wheel (on a bench grinder) to get your initial shape is a good idea, as the shape of the wheel puts a concave on the bevel, therefore making it easier to sit the heel and toe of the bevel on the diamond stone for the final honing (and you can see it clearly, as that higher edge will shine).
