Very helpful!! I love woodcarving and got really sad when the chisels got blunt. Bought the sharpening stone with the chisels but had no idea how to use it. This tutorial is straightforward and showed me that its very easy to use😊

Since this video is for beginners I think a comment is in order about terminology, which can be confusing. A “whetstone” is not necessarily a water stone. The term “whetstone” just means sharpening stone, and it could be an oil stone or a water stone, or a diamond stone. You would never put an oil stone in water, and you would never put oil on a water stone.

isnt it 30mm = 30 degrees and 40mm = 25 degrees? You were wanting 25 degrees but measured and sharpened at 30mm.

I have the exact setup and love them. I also got a leather strop for an extreme edge and shine! Thanks for all your content, sir. I just found your channel today so I want be missing any more of your content. Question, what type camera do you use for these videos? Some of the filming equipment is ridiculous in my opinion. Thanks and have a great day

Oops. Guide said 30mm for 30 deg bevel and 40mm for 25 deg bevel. Your chisel has a 25 deg bevel but you set chisel and guide for 30mm instead of the 40mm you need to maintain current chisel bevel.

Nice video, thanks. Question: Don't you sharpen on the up stroke and lift the chisel slightly as you draw it back, so you don't undo the sharpening of the up stroke. Only sharpen on one direction, up stroke.

The amount of times I've had to explain to people who complain their newly bought chisels and plane blades are blunt that they are required to be sharpened before using them - yes even brand new good quality ones. But instead they start leaving negative reviews on the shop's website which is quite unfair to be fair.

I spend at least 30 mins sharpening on 4000 & 8000 grit before even starting to work on my projects.

Good sharp tools are the way to avoid mishaps at the bench.

Is the chisel not meant to sit in the recess of the honing guide? At 8:02 it doesn't look like it's in right
