Is Thanos the Best MCU Villain?

Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ arrives in theaters this weekend. The film is directed by The Russo Brothers and stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Tom Holland and Josh Brolin. This has been the culmination of ten years of MCU films and world building from Marvel, Disney and Kevin Feige. In the film, the Avengers and their allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe. But is Thanos the villain in the history of the MCU?

Kristian Harloff and John Rocha look at the scope of the MCU and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ as they answer this question. The film offered us a lot of time to get to know Thanos, explore the reasons for his pursuit of the Infinity Stones and his logic in doing so. Kristian and Rocha debated Loki vs Killmonger after ‘Black Panther’ and now they explore if Thanos stepped in here and unseated Killmonger as the consensus best villain in the MCU? He is the best but Zemo (civil war) is super underrated in the conversation of MCU villains.

He got Cap and Iron Man to hate eachother. Or he at least helped a lot. He knew he couldn’t beat the avengers but he could help pit them against eachother. And that end scene with him and Black Panther about vengeance was great.

Yup, Thanos is hands down the best villain in the MCU. Thanos is definitely worth the wait, and it paid off.

One of the moments that really stood out for me about showing Thanos' character was when he was pretty much comforting Wanda after she killed Vision. He was shockingly tender and compassionate to her, respecting both the lengths she went through in an attempt to stop him, but also she killed the person she loved the most, same as he did.

THANOS takes the cake because Brolin was given enough time to shine. If Killmonger has more to do in the first hour of Black Panther he’d stand a small chance. But Brolin takes this one. Loki still tracks in at #2 for me, but Killmonger is still great.

How are people questioning whether or not Thanos loved Gamora? If he didn’t love her, he wouldn’t have been able to obtain the soul stone. As messed up and cruel as he is, as misguided his convictions are, I don’t think there is any denying that he loved her. Just like she didn’t feel pure hate for him. Life is not a dichotomy, people. The Russos, the screenwriters, and Josh Brolin gave so much dimension to this character. Killmonger was also amazing and his motivations were understandable as well but Thanos just had complexities that floored me.
