Standard of Care for #Lipedema in the United States!🇺🇸

IT. IS. HERE.

Happy Lipedema Awareness Month!
After years of research, we are thrilled to announce that the U.S. Standard of Care guidelines for lipedema is published! Authors include Total Lipedema Care’s very own Dr. Karen L. Herbst PhD, MD, and Dr. Jaime Schwartz MD, FACS among other lipedema experts.

These guidelines improve the understanding of the loose connective tissue disease, lipedema, to advance our understanding towards early diagnosis, treatments, and ultimately a cure for affected individuals.

This article can be viewed at:

Total Lipedema Care is led by Dr. Jaime S. Schwartz, a board-certified plastic surgeon and world-renowned lipedema specialist who has dedicated much of his career to raising awareness for fat disorders (like lipedema) that are highly underdiagnosed and usually misdiagnosed as morbid obesity. He is known for taking on the complex lipedema cases — giving patients more hope by alleviating the pain from this disorder. We have offices in Beverly Hills and Dubai but we see patients from all over the globe.

Thank you very much! In my country doctors don't know such a thing as lipedema, so there is no treatment for that. I have cankles as long as I can remember myself. At age of 15 I already felt miserable. My weight was 47kg and I never felt slim enought to wear skirts or shorts on summer. All my life I live sporty lifestyle, eat healthy. My legs hurts so much, but no one understands me. Everybody says - you just need to do some sports and then your legs will be beautiful. 15 years I walked 9000 steps every day, besides that I ran 5km 3 times a week, 2 times a week went to swim, 5 times a week went to zumba, pilates, yoga and other classes, besides that I was in a professional windsurfing team, but no maybe I need to just do more sports. I was underweight, but never ever I had have slim legs. my ankles are the same size as my thighs. I feel very happy for every video and every advice, so I can learn to help myself. Thank you!

Thank you so much! Hopefully my doctor will read this when I give it to him.
I will print and hand to him and also offer to text it to him and/or email it. I think I’m stage 2. Maybe 2-3.

Thank you for all you do 💞 I just educated my Dr on this. He was sounding it out as he read it off my phone. I'm probably considered stage 0-1 by visual appearance (not diagnosed), but I feel it!! Lots of it! And thanks to learning about what these nodules are, I discovered ehlers danlos! Just answered almost 45 years of issues. Looking forward to finding anyone who can officially diagnose me so I don't have to keep diagnosing myself. (I have been referred to a geneticist) But I have watched so many of your videos and read so many articles I feel I could teach a class!! 🤣 I'm in far nor cal if you can point me in the right direction. I'm thinking Stanford? I want to donate my body to science and I want to start now!

Is there a connection with Lipedema and hEDS & MCAS? I don’t recall how the two got thrown my way (bless the algorithm?).

I haven’t been “properly” diagnosed with lipedema, but it’s not rocket science - I know I have it (and looking forward to my consultation with Dr. Schwartz). But I know I also have dermatographia, which iirc is related to MCAS in some way. I passed some of the Beighton Score points too, but I’m not sure if I took the right one. I know tests change over time.
