1. The Pace
- I don’t know how this works but it's true
- And the only reason I know this
- Is because I would come to an island in the summers, and realize how different life was
I don’t want my life to be fast
- I rather it go slow

2. Home Prices ( Condos )
- The home I was living in, which was not that great, cost about 700k
- A condo was 170-200k but then you had to pay $700 in HOA fees
Things were just so expensive, that it didn’t make sense to me
Because:
- It would cost me decades of my life to pay something like that off

3. The Weather
- Being in New York, always felt like I was in a black-and-white movie
- I don’t like the cold and I don’t like snow
- Blazing hot

4. The Hustle Culture
- People are often more interested in things than people and living life
- People justify ignoring their families for jobs and money

5. Train Folks (I've seen fights )

6. Lack of Trust ( with cops )

- When a city is that big and there are so many people
- You just don’t really trust anyone and no one trusts you
- Cops don’t trust me, stores don’t trust me, people don’t trust and you may say that’s normal, but not in a small town
- It's different

7. The interchangeable relationship ( almost like people are your friends as long as you can exchange something for them )
- Always thinking you’ll need to pay someone back

8. The Taxes

9. No Room to Grow ( literally, I mean acres )

10. Not Big Family friendly (it's so expensive )

Not saying that people
- I made a lot of good friends
- People were nice to me
- Opportunities many
The way I see it,
- New York is like a company town
- You go to make money
- And you figure out a way to leave

I left NYC not the state. Moved upstate and it was the best decision I have ever made. It came with some challenges but I got through them and I am now chilling.

“Home just feels a lot better“ I totally agree about NY, it’s a place to work not really a place to retire.

Everyone has a problem with every place they traveled. This is very informing.

I was born in Queens NYC. The city is fast paced and very expensive to live in and no you can’t trust anybody like that here.

Once I make a good portion of money, I’m considering moving to one of the counties of New York..

All great points and very spot on about the issues we deal with living in NYC! I'm from the suburbs of the Midwest in the US where things are very slow and segregated. People are not very open-minded in the Midwest or the south in my opinion, so I choose not to live in those areas. I moved to NYC over 15 years ago because the city makes me thrive unlike the city I moved from. I just believe that it's about the choices people make in where they feel comfortable living. I'm so glad to hear that you're comfortable living in the DR, best wishes!

I left NYC 2 years ago after living there for 20 years and it was really best decision ever. The only downside is I will never make as much money at a 9-5 job as I did in NYC.

Tommy did you ever thought of moving down south or PA. I am Dominican born and raised and definitely felt your point specially the gray feeling lol. But I now move to PA about 5 years ago and still feel kind of the same. But I cant stop thinking that I might regret moving to DR

NYC is for the rich. Most of the jobs arein retail, finance and legal. Nothing for young black men (except govt jobs).
I lived in a luxury apt on the Vegas Strip, for $700/month. First month, free rent😊
