I love how much and how often this show has "unspoken backstory", where from this scene we know at some point in the past Hal found hidden beer, and as punishment thought to drink it all to show them the negative effects of alcohol, but they instead found it hilarious, and they deliberately chose to try and make it happen again solely for amusement.

This show is so fantastic.

Perfect misdirection, and Malcolm in the middle was packed with moments like these, I tell anybody who'll listen that it's one of the most underrated comedies of all time.
