10. How To Successfully Weld Super Fine Jump Rings - Free Permanent Jewelry Training

In this video, I show tricks to weld super fine jump rings.

Both sides of the jump ring must be touching sufficiently before you weld. Otherwise, “blowout” happens - where the gap becomes bigger as the wire ends roll back.

When jump rings are 26 gauge (0.45mm) or thinner, they are very hard to see. Also, sometimes the wires are not cut completely flush, due to the fact that the wires are thin and soft.

With all jump rings, it is advisable to open them by pivoting, and then close them by pivoting backwards as we push the ends together. As you close the ends, feel the sides grinding against each other. In this way, even though you cannot see the jumpring ends clearly, you will know that they are closed through feel.

When the wires are very fine, a trick you can use is to overlap the wires. Then, using a pair of chain nose pliers (flat pliers), press the overlapped wires together. In this way, you ensure that both sides are touching and have more surface area that is connecting. Weld with low power by pointing the electrode right on the middle of the overlap, between the two ends.

For the 26ga (0.5mm) 925 silver wire that I weld in the video, I used 3w power on the Zapp welder.

Good tips as always :) I find even with a small gap on part of the seam, a little pressure with 2 sets of pliers solves the problem. Tough with freehand welding tho. as I always say, microscope solves all problems for fine welding, no hacks required :))

Hi,
On your main channel page you have a image with black jewelry pieces that have jump rings attached on both ends.
I am trying to learn how to attach jump rings to basic wedding band rings to add charms.
Can you do a video, or suggest a video I can learn from?
Thanks.

Hello, I have the Amazon welder, and I am having the hardest time making the machine work. Do you have a setup video for this welder?

When it comes to welding the jump ring; does it have to be welded “on both sides”? My weld looks good on one side but then I turn it around and see the tiny line—is that how it’s supposed to be? Thanks so much!! Your videos are super helpful!

Is it normal for the jump ring to turn a little black on the spot where you weld it? What do you use to get rid of that? I saw you cleaned it with something. Thankyou for the video!

How smooth is the weld when you overlap the ends? I would be afraid the jump ring would catch on stuff.

You mention wholesale chains and finding. Where can I get that info?

What do you consider low power?
For specifically 24 gauge.
Great video! Thanks in advance

Is this possible to do on gold plated silver, or will it ruin the plating?

Will the overlap work for a 24 ga too?
