Which SSD Generation Should PC Builders Buy?

Just bought a 2TB Gen4 nvme at 7300mbs during the prime sale and was blown away with how fast it was compared to my old drive.

I went from a literal 15 year old 250gb hdd to a wd black 750n after upgrading fro pne of the first quad core cpus ever made, intel q series, a mobo with a north/south bridge, and 4gb ddr3 to a b550, 3700x, 32gb 3600mhz. I was SOOOO happy i could finally alt-tab out of WoW without freezing so hard i had to reboot lol

The gen 4 drive should backwards compatible with gen 3 boards. Kinda like how you can put an RTX 4090 into a 2006 emachines(not that you should)

I got both gen3 and 4 drives in my laptop and other than in benchmarks I cannot tell any difference in loading times in games or applications whatsoever. I'd say Gen3 drives are more than fine for 99% of users out there, unless you're a video editor or an absolute baller.

Honestly, I wanted for OS to be on separate smaller ssd, only problem being, gen 4 smaller than 1tb are either expensive for their size or shops in my country don't sell them at all. Went with gen 3, but as only OS is on this one, can change it any time

I bought a 4tb gen 3 a couple years back. Its fast enough and i will never have to worry about storage space lol

Here in my country Gen 3 SSDs are HALF the price of Gen 4! And Gen 4 & 5 are basically the same price
If I had the money I would've gone straight with Gen 5 but I can barely afford Gen 3 here since the wages are way too low & JUST STAYING ALIVE expenses are REALLY EXPENSIVE💔

always buy nvme gen 4 now even your motherboard only support gen 3, because the price of gen 3 still ridiculously high than gen 4 nvme. and you can still use nvme gen 4 on gen 3 motherboard, but the speed will be reduced to maximum of gen 3 speed.

I use a WDB 3.5 500GB as my schoolwork/video editing drive. My brother has my old 2.5 SSD for whatever the hell he has on there

even the sluggish gen 3 drives have slower write speeds than anyone has internet.
u might have 2% longer loading screens, but it wont affect your FPS at all to go with the cheapest

I only buy nvme ssd's with dram and slc cache and a phision controller. Worth spending a little extra for if your planning on keeping the ssd's for 6+ years.
