How Disney FIXED Primos

In this video I go over the history of Primos. Covering the initial online backlash, and how Disney changed the show to address criticisms

“Primos” is inspired and created by EmmyⓇ Award-nominated Natasha Kline’s (“Big City Greens”) childhood experience in Southern California growing up in a large, multicultural and blended Mexican American family. It follows Tater Ramirez Humphrey, an eccentric girl with ambitious summer dreams. However, her plans take an unexpected turn when her family invites all 12 of her cousins to stay with them, leading to a summer of surprises and unforgettable adventures.

You know what? They addressed the concerns, made meaningful changes, and in spite of a few missteps, ultimately seem to have learned a few things from the whole experience. That’s good enough for me.

I’m glad Primos got its most glaring issues fixed, but I still believe that Primos has a huge uphill battle ahead of it; especially after the ‘colonizer language’ debacle.

“Somewhat unclear at the time”. How do u not see the Hollywood sign at the end of the intro? 😭😭

2:07 Correction: The town name was changed from “Terremoto Heights” to “Hacienda Hills”, not “Hacienda Heights”.

I honestly think the changes they made were reasonable. It seems like a cute show. Fantastic? That's up to the viewer. But regardless, I'm glad the creator is telling her story, the way she wants. I think it's great that not only another female showrunner is getting the opportunity to make something, but also a Latin creator. It's great

And I think the other reason people made a bigger deal was solely because of the VA, and her...comments. People dog piled on that, and honestly the way she addressed it put a bad taste in people's mouths.

(Oh also, great vid. Short and sweet and to the point. Can't wait to see more from you :) )

I’ve watched Primos and let me tell, I loved it. The art style, the background art, the characters, the music, everything. I also ignored the hate that the series had received, and just sat down, relax, and enjoy the show.

You know, this whole Primos controversy reminds me of Red Shoes & the Seven Dwarves. Just like Primos, their advertising wasn’t done so well, so people wrote the show off before it even aired, but it’s actually one of the best adaptation movies of Snow White I’ve seen

Wait, Disney did something good after getting backlash?

Did not see that one coming.

Glad they adressed the problematic issues, but maybe if they did some Proper Research during production they wouldn't have had such issues in the first place.

I don't have any Latino heritage (at least as far as I know) but I do understand peoples' gripes with the first intro and I was also interested in seeing more of this since then. I haven't watched any of the episodes yet, but I plan to sometime in August.

Glad for the most part the crew took the criticism and improved the show.

To be honest with you, I thought Primos was not that bad at all. I thought it was “not the best but not the worst”.

Primos is one of those shows that I thought I was gonna absolutely despise it but then ended up liking it.

They fixed some of the major problems that people had with the show when the theme song first premiered.

And my favorite character from Primos has got to be Tater. She’s silly, but has bad Spanish grammar, which is intentional since Tater’s not very good with Spanish.

(I know people are gonna attack me for this. Trust me, it’s a controversial opinion I have.)

Wow ever since the backlash Disney gave this show the elemental effect and changed the concerning parts causing the show to get the love which was intended

You are the first person I’ve seen actually mentioned the changes. It’s good that they took the criticism seriously and made changes. If there is a really important message you want to tell with your show, changing a few names here and there isn’t going to hinder your ability to tell the story. And that is something i hope the creator learned from this.

On a second note, the voice actor for the main character is still problematic and have made no effort to apologize for what she said, as far as I’m aware

The show went from “Mexico is a fucked up country, ” to “LA county is affordable.”

Both statements are wrong and fail to address the reality of those places correctly.

Finally! It’s been more than a year since I reanimated the theme song and I think the canon changes were better than I expected

It was definitely one of those weird out of context problems that happened. I know they did that with a Netflix show as well except that Netflix show I got released and most people kind of like stay quiet once the show was released well with this one being that
They fix a lot of people criticism and we kind of have a moment of a big pretty good show not to mention their other shows at least the show and the show is important to me to just drop the Internet/Disney Channel
