Primos is understandably under fire, but shouldn't be tossed aside. Thank you to @TheOGCrit for helping out.

It was a great time working on this with you Jay. Always a pleasure, never a pain

And yes, I really have been called a fake Puerto Rican and I didn’t learn Spanish growing up. I tell no lies.

I feel like the worst part of the VA’s response is the condescending and spiteful attitude of it. It just gives off the vibe that shes solely making this just to “get back” at people who are just correcting a small mistake

"The spanish in the show is broken, and actual Spanish speaking people are pointing it out to us. Let's blame the colonizers!"

This VA is a prime example of "making a mountain out of a mole hill". She took an issue, and not only made the issue more visible by talking about it, but amplified it by proceeding to act on the "moral highground" and begin to condemn those don't like the show, even throwing out the "its for children" fallacy to where "if its for children, it can't be criticized" argument.

Brazilian here, portuguese speaker and working on the dubbing industry and actually thinking the LA translators job will be a real nightmare, considering all the adaptations disney do on topics like weight(the character named gordita), and all the stuff. This will probably be the same nightmare the brasilian translators dealt when adapting the names from star wars

Chilean here, I recently created a Chilean character and a Brazilian character for a story I'm working on, how did I choose their names? I googled "100 most popular names in Chile/Brazil", and chose Lila for the Chilean girl and Luana for the Brazilian girl. Idk I just feel like they could've done the same for the cousins in this show instead of calling them Nacho, Nachita, Gordita (chubby), Chacha (maid) and the one Jay referenced 🤷‍♀

Honestly, all the controversy for this show was so mild and easily fixable, that if that VA hadn't made that video it would have blown over by now. By making such a condescendingly smug video where she talked down to people with valid criticisms instead of letting the PR team step in and clarify that the broken Spanish is gringo slang and the main characters are second-gen, she basically tossed a firecracker on an easily cleanable gas spill and now Disney has to try and put it out before it burns the whole show to the ground before it even premieres.

"Spanish is a colonizer language" she says while speaking English

The strangest part of that lady responding was how she decided to deliver her nonsense in an ASMR voice.

There was even a viral image where one of the crew members called these people grammar nazis. Yikes, Disney recently hasn't been doing very well and has been losing to companies like Universal and Sony. I don't know whether I should be disappointed or happy because it's Disney.

As a Mexican born and raised, I think the intention was good and it would have been an interesting take in the perpetual foreigner concept.
However, Tater's VA was definitely what sent the show off the deep end for me

I AM SO HAPPY PEOPLE ARE SPEAKING UP ABOUT THE ‘LATINX’ THING.

If the creators had come out and emphasized that the reason the grammar is wrong is because the protagonist struggles with the grammar, I don’t think people would be as mad. I mean after all, there are a lot of kids that relate to that struggle. I’m half Costa Rican and learning Spanish has always been difficult. And because it’s always been difficult, feeling apart of the culture has been hard. I know a lot of kids can connect to that. If they had just left it there and not had any other people say anything, maybe they could have gotten away with it.

But to double down, insult the language, not apologize and be so fucking smug about the feedback like the main actress, all it makes me want to say is fuck this shit. I’m out.

Honestly, I could ignore the criticisms against Primos, but MAN the voice actor really dropped the ball hard to the point I can’t in good faith enjoy the show as a Mexican. Spanish isn’t JUST a Spain language now, it’s changed throughout the years to the point of different variations of Spanish have derived from it. Simplifying years of progression to just a colonizer language is insane. Along with that, the VA preaches of all of this, but fails to recognize that English is also literally a “colonizer” language lmao.

I don’t want this show to fail at all, it is a good idea and showing how diverse hispanic families can be is amazing for children. I would’ve loved a show like this as a kid (shoutout to El Tigre) because I was in a similar position to the main character. But MANNN, it’s really hard to like this all things considered. Cuchita is mad funny tho

A big part about latin identity is how incredibly varied spanish can be among spanish speaking countries. In Mexico, we have thousands of words that people in Colombia either don't or use differently, same in Chile, same in Peru, Argentina, Spain, etc. And all of this countries take pride in their unique ways of speaking the same language
If she thinks spanish isn't latin american culture, she cleraly doesn't know her roots or actuvely disregards them

Mexican here, the problem with the VA's response is her attitude, also the lack of self awareness as she lectures us in ENGLISH, also Spain's spanish and latin American Spanish are two different beasts, so much so that we even have different dubs for media, that's why is such a strong point of contention, it's a colonizer's language but we made it ours and to have this lady not even be aware of that distinction just adds to the perception of her being arrogantly uninformed.

Meanwhile, back in the early 2000s: LUCHA!

Honor, family, tradition, donuts.
I loved that show. Just as good as animaniacs, static shock, looney tunes, btas, etc.

All things aside the fact that Jay used Google translate to pronounce a swear word is honestly hilarious

The backlash with the racism and the incorrect Spanish words is completely understandable one of the reasons why I would watch this the least compared to other modern Disney shows

5:29 That's an argument for teaching them the CORRECT words, lady. You don't reinforce ignorace; you teach them so that they can have a _better_ understanding.
