2:12 Blood sugar levels and no energy
3:10 Quality sleep on keto and energy levels

In this video, we’re going to take a look at what causes tiredness on keto. Chronic fatigue on keto can be disheartening, but there’s usually an easy solution.

Here are 7 reasons why you’re feeling tired on keto:

1. You need more B vitamins
• Vitamin B1 and B5 are crucial in your ability to make energy
• Consume nutritional yeast for a natural source of B vitamins

2. Increase potassium intake
• Consume large quantities of vegetables and leafy greens
• Electrolyte powder or a concentrated green powder can also help you meet your daily potassium needs

3. Low stomach acid
• Leads to poor digestion
• Consume apple cider vinegar, potassium, and sea salt
• Try betaine hydrochloride if necessary

4. Hidden carbohydrates
• One of the most common causes of fatigue on keto

5. Low blood sugar
• You’ll notice that you feel energized after eating
• A keto diet and intermittent fasting can correct low blood sugar over time

6. High blood sugar
• Feeling tired after eating is an indicator of high blood sugar.
• Can also be corrected with keto and intermittent fasting over time

7.You need more sleep!
• You’ll notice that you feel tired all the time
• Try reducing stress to improve sleep quality

Since starting Keto, I've been REALLY tired. Just now woke up from a 3hr nap as well!. Started 3 days ago. Everything else is going great, though. I think it's the sugar. I believe my body is going into some sort of shock because I'm not eating my normal massive amounts of sugar that I have always eaten every single day.

Oohhhh, my blood sugar is low! Im on Day 9 & have already dropped 11lbs!!!
I’m doing OMAD bc I’m used to fasting & am rarely hungry but my energy has been very volatile. It was REALLY bad today. I took care of all I needed to do and when I was done, I could barely keep my eyes open & I felt weak. So I took a one hour nap. When I woke up I STILL felt drained. I’d made some keto chili with a ton of veggies in it. I ate a bowl (a little more protein than I have been eating) and my energy is now coming back. I’m still a little groggy but not so depleted as I was earlier! Thanks Dr. Berg!

For fatigue and liver detox:

I get a large mason jar, fill it with ice, add filtered water or a bottle of mineral water—about 3/4 of the way, add a pinch of pink Himalayan salt or sea salt, a splash of lemon juice—about 2 Tbs., add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar & 4 tablespoons of dill pickle juice. Stir & drink. Do this every other day, or when needed.

There is one more possibility for the fatigue. That is dehydration. On Keto you need lots of water to stay hydrated and flush out our digestive systems. Water with a little sea salt and lemon juice did wonders for my energy and clarify.

Great video! So helpful!! Sleep especially is so underrated. This is when the body heals itself. Lots of rest has really helped my adrenals repair! I'm so happy!! 🙂

I'm 4 days into intermittent fasting and keto diet, and this morning I woke feeling amazing, went for a run and wasn't even hungry afterwards despite the fast, but then I had an organic salad of cucumber, arugula, spinach, couple of cherry tomatoes, prawns, avocado and mayonnaise, plus olive oil, but it hit me like a ton of bricks. So sleepy and lethargic afterwards! Why? Not feeling good right now.

Nap for three hours! Sounds dreamy. Of course, then you stay up till midnight because you’re not tired...and there continues the cycle!

Have been through all those symptoms starting off on Keto and IF. Took a while for me not to feel tired after I ate.

Hi Dr. Berg, what would be the best and worst time to take a nap should I feel the need to? I’ve read some researches say going to sleep right after you eat will make your spiked up insulin level after you eat goes back down way slower, is that true? And will that make taking a nap right after lunch really bad?

Dunno which to try or correct all at once. Omad and keto for 1 month, 23/1 down 22lbs, and extremely tired all the time. Sleeping 11 hrs now and still falling asleep on lunch. Eat 3-4 cups of veggies a night, 3-5 grams of sugar, tomatoes, some keto snacks, a large hass avocado everynight and keto coffee twice an evening. About a chicken breast worth of protein a night. I barely have energy. Im a somewhat muscular guy with about 15 more lbs to go. 5'8 currently 200lbs please advise!! Ive managed to find energy to workout only 1 time since starting. Felt great at first week, then nothing. Blood pressure dropped from 148/90 to 122/80 which is good and heart rate 56bpm. But i am beyond tired and about to drop keto for a plate of pasta. Advise pleaze!!!

I had horrible lethargy on this diet for 4 weeks solid with no respite until I started 3 days ago drinking a teaspoon of Braggs organic Apple Cider Vinegar with the "mother" and a teaspoon of lime juice diluted in a cup of water 4 times a day. After the 3rd day of doing this (today) I feel like a heavy dark fog has been lifted off and have 50% of my energy back. I will keep doing this every day...

I am trying nutritional yeast but wheat grass is SUPER EXPENSIVE so I am using lots of green veggies instead.

4 months and lost 24 lbs. That said I have no energy to even cook or prepare a meal. I do everything you say to do like a science project and I am so tired that I feel worthless. I am never hungry, and have no ambition to do anything. All I want to do is sleep. What is wrong with me? I am getting very depressed. My carbs are at 10 or less a day. Is it possible that this just won’t work for some people. I am a 65 yr old woman.

Here’s an observation in case it helps anyone. Dr. Berg said that sleepiness could be caused by low fat protein. Two days, I had ground Turkey on a salad and I was so sleepy afterwards I basically had keto flu. (Before you jump in with “tryptophan”, Dr. B has explained that, noting that Thanksgiving sleepiness comes from the carbs.) So I tried an experiment after a 24 hour fast. I ate some pistachios first, and I got some of my favorite country sausage from a meat market that gives up two tablespoons of fat when you cook three ounces of meat. (Ground Turkey gives up no fat, 1g of fat to 29g of protein, and I have to add a little olive oil to the pan.) I put that sausage on my salad, and Dr. B was right. I did not get sleepy on the higher fat meat and I feel much better. I have maybe 6 ounces of this ground Turkey left and I won’t buy it again—I bought it for years thinking I was so healthy, it didn’t make me sleepy before I cut carbs. Now I know that a small amount of decent meat from a meat market made me feel a thousand times better. I’m scared to eat the rest of thelow-fat high protein Turkey now, it made me feel so lethargic when following keto. Thank you so much, never in a million years would I have figured that out on my own.

Last year I tried the ketogenic diet with IF for six weeks, did everything I was supposed to do. After about six weeks, I became so fatigued I couldn't move and because there were no carbs in the house, I had to call for help. During the past couple of weeks, I tried it again. Again, I became so fatigued I had to call for help.

The first time, I ate kale like it was going out of style, but I heard it might not be good for my thyroid (hypothyroidism). I also ate eggs, avocado, etc. I used many products from your store.

This time, I was relying mainly on wheatgrass juice powder and electroytes (your brands). Regardless, both times I completely ran out of energy.

Diabetes and hypothyroidism are two potential problems. I also have fibromyalgia and a potential autoimmune disease (in the middle of diagnostics). On top of that, I have degenerative disc disease, sleep apnea, depression, anxiety and many more issues.

I don't know what else to try. Once I hit that level of fatigue, it scares me so badly, I quit the diet. Without the diet, I have no hope because I don't know what else to do. I've tried getting your attention in Q and A's. I tried contacting you through the store. No one will even give me an idea of what to try. I realize you're worried about giving medical advice. Is there some way you could couch it in other terms?

Anyone? Can you try to solve this???
