They say Peru is the food capital of South America, so we have to really find out by ourselves. Is Peruvian food delicious? This is our reaction as we tried some of the strange and SHOCKINGLY good Peruvian food in Lima (specifically in Barranco neighborhood) This video reveals one of the most epic nights we have in Lima so far. We explored deep into the local experience and food culture in the nighttime in Barranco, Lima. In this video, you will get to explore with us the highlight of Peruvian cuisine as we get a chance to taste various different Peruvian food in Barranco.

Here are what we had in this Peruvian Food Video:

1. Choritos a la chalaca : a ceviche type of dish. Choritos are mussels, and “a la chalaca” means “Callao-style“. Calloa is the port city in norther part of Lima. Usually, they are served this peruvian ceviche with a cold beer before lunch)

2. Papa a la huancaína : Papa a la huancaína is a Peruvian appetizer of boiled yellow potatoes in a spicy, creamy sauce called huancaína sauce. Although the dish's name is derived from Huancayo, a city in the Peruvian highlands, this dish is from Lima - Perú. It has become a staple of everyday and holiday cuisine throughout the country.

3. Anticuchos de Corazón ( PERUVIAN BEEF HEART SKEWERS - which is the hightlight of this Peruvian food tour) Anticuchos are popular street food in Peru and are generally seen being served from stalls or during outdoor events. They were developed during the times of colonization when the Spaniards adopted the local llama skewers with some of their flavors and changed the meat to beef. They are now popular in surrounding countries with a variety of sauces

4. Picarones - Picarones are a Peruvian dessert that originated in Lima during the viceroyalty. It is somewhat similar to buñuelos, a type of doughnut brought to the colonies by Spanish conquistadors. Its principal ingredients are squash and sweet potato. It is served in a doughnut form and covered with syrup, made from chancaca.

5. Emoliente - Emoliente is kind of an herbal tea popular especially in the cold winter month in Peru. Sold by street vendors around the country at corners, bus stops or parks and plazas, it is part of Peruvian lifestyle and believed to have healing and protective powers. Emoliente is made of numerous Peruvian medicinal plants, herbs, and seeds. A great beverage to get warm, add some minerals and vitamins to your diet and boost your body.

Peruvian cuisine is very varied and it reflects influences from immigrants from Spain, Italy, Africa, China, Japan and from the Andes as well. There are more than 500 dishes that you can enjoy and every single of them taste different and so freaking good. I'm so glad you've tried anticuchos, they're the bomb! I hope you've eaten "Causa limeña", which is made of potates, veggies, lemon, aji amarillo, chicken and mayo.
