It's a little incredible how people are suprised this kind of property damage happened when we still continuously create more and more concrete and cemented ground within urban trading ground that can absorb water when it rains heavy as soil, dirt and grass etc. for solid ground everywhere and sidewalks that don't absorb any water at all when it rains. We're all respnosible for this, not just the government....if we continue to pave roads, sidewalks, fondations, stairs, parking lots, etc like we are still doing today all we can expect is worse flooding each and every time, getting worse and worse as the city expands and builds more infrastructure

First question: Do you have flood insurance??? Do you have insurance? CTV, you need to ask those questions! Plus, why do people always look to government to solve their issues? Mother Nature waits for no government. Mitigate your own risks!!

I feel bad for these people but the issues like this just happen years ago. Did you think anything was done to rectify the situation? Nope
All those creeks and storm drains way behind what really needs to be in place.

From the North Shore wastewater plant debacle to the recent flooding, the North Shore residents have taken a beating lately.

I'm sorry for what these people are going through but there isn't a city anywhere that could possibly prepare for something like that

Most achitects know that building a house on a hillside comes with risk situations like this, hopefully they have flood insurance to cover the damage .

Cash that carbon tax rebate and look what happens.

It always amazes me with the EXCUSES our governments come up with every time something goes wrong. Always someone or something else to blame other than their own incompetence. One thing is always for sure though: When it comes to their salary raises. Go figure.

You know I was brought up in North Van and we have BIG RAINS all through the 60 and 70 we just got over it, as it was not unusual.
If you build on the side of a hill and remove most of the trees and pave over everthing where do you think the rain is going to go... in your house. Look Mosquito Creek in North Van were i lived was covered over in the early 60's because it flooded ever year. It was covered over thru Upper Delbrook down to nearly the hwy. They knew what had to be done then. Do that now and ohhh the karens will all come out.

My friends' house is on Lawson, one house away from 25th. The flooding they experienced was horrific.

An area like that will get flooding no matter what is done. Risky place. Places in Greater Victoria like Saanich or Esquimalt much better areas to handle lots of water ( but they get way less too ).
