The Women's Prize and the International Booker Prize recently released their longlists and I have very mixed feelings 👀

How do you feel about these two prizes? Are you excited to read any of the books? x

I don’t know what the criteria is for the prize, but Foster was published years ago. It just got a boost this year because The Quiet Girl (based on Foster), got Oscar nominated for Best International Feature. So maybe that’s a reason? I do love Claire Keegan’s writing though. The film is worth watching!

I finished The Bandit Queens yesterday and I really loved it and there were at least a couple of laugh out loud moments in there

'Boulder' sounds good... will have to try and read it at some point.

I love the WPFF, but I definitely feel like this year the front runners are ahead of the rest of the pack. It could be that it's because I've only read 7 so far, but O'Farrell, Haynes, and Kingsolver are just miles ahead for me. Curious to see what the shortlist will be, I'll very likely read it if I can get the books. That seems to be the biggest obstacle for me. Release dates and accessibility to a lot of the prize books are a problem I face often in Canada. They just aren't available here until after the winner announcement or so close to the announcement that you can't get them read in time.

I'm following the Women's Prize this year. I have read Glory, I'm a Fan, Pod and Demon Copperhead. Waiting for the rest to come to my library ☺ Out of these four, Demon Copperhead is miles ahead imo and I feel I might even be rooting for it to win. I love it SO MUCH. We'll see with the other books, but I'd say I'm not excited by the majority of the list.

I started The bandit queens and i enjoy it, but i will not pick up any of the other books on this lists. I pick up Blacklist books like The Goldfish, and classics like Oblomov. Nothing interest me this year on this lists, unfortunately.

I really want to say the IB is great, but so many of the 13 are flops 😂
