I’m looking at a 1933 photo of Cary Grant and Randolph Scott where both are sporting belts with their high rise trousers. Looks perfectly fine. I think that high rise trousers and a tall, lean physique is the key.

This is one of the only times where I can actually say I disagree! When wearing a lighter colored casual suit with no waist covering, and your pants are high waisted like they should be, a belt can look very nice. It adds nice bit of visual interest with the leather and metal combination, which is very easy to pair with shoes. I think that plain waistbands with no waist covering can be boring with casual wear. But suspenders are more comfortable in my opinion and keep the height of the pants more consistent, they're also the only correct option when wearing a vest besides side adjusters. Suspenders are also the better option for more formal suit patterns and colors like navy pinstripes.

I highly agree with this. It is a shame that so many bad fashion trends from the 1980s and forward have been carried on recklessly.

I like suspenders with my tux, but on suits and dress pants now I go for side tabs and far prefer them over belt loops. More elegant and less fuss. Thanks!

Belts are culture
In the renaissance the upper class only wore belts
In the medieval times only knights and royalty wore belts and if a soldier proved himself in battle he was rewarded a belt

I do prefer suspenders as well but I find that a belt can look quite good with high waisted trousers and a more casual outfit. Very popular in the 30s I believe and we call it the golden age of menswear for a reason haha

I do not know who first mentioned that tan or light brown shoes go with navy blue. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Black shoes are a natural match for navy blue trousers and suits.

Trousers 👖 with side adjusters without belt loops are at a higher level of sartorial sophistication and may not be found in ready to wear.

There's belts that compliment the men's casual coat, pants sets. Also, the classic double breasted suits have matching belts. Black, Brown, Burgundy. It's 50/50.
