My Thoughts on Multiple Monitor Trading Set-Ups

Whether you are day trading or swing trading, one of the most frequently asked questions I get is centered around trading set-ups and most specifically, how many monitors is enough? I give my opinion on how many monitors you should use for trading along with what types of set-ups can be too much.

One big recommendation: make sure you are facing the monitor you look at the most directly (not turning your head). For most traders this is the 'execution' monitor. Some people put the bezel between 2 (or 4 monitors) right in front of them and then they spend hours with their heads slightly turned to the right or to the left. Believe me, your neck (and your eyes) will thank you in the end of the day. I use 4K monitors (32"). After I bought my first 4K monitor I had to upgrade the entire set up. 4K was made for traders imo (you can fit more charts, everything looks sharper, etc). For my style of trading helped me a lot. Another recommendation: 'as much as it's possible' try to use the same brand, model and resolution for all monitors, so you don't need to do adjustments as you move things around and they look the same in all monitors (another lesson learned through my years of trading). Will just make your life easier. When I'm trading the thing I want to worry the least is my trading set up.

Great video. I knew a guy who had six huge 4K monitors. I just couldn't wrap my head around having that much information. Paralysis by analysis sounds very real.

I use 4 monitors. And that s’more than plenty. I have 3 27” lined up and a 34 inch ultra wide. In the center on top. On the left and right 27” I have charts open for watchlist. In the center 27” I have charts for the main stock I’m trading (daily, 5 min, and 1m intraday) with addition to Level 2 and buy sells time stamps. On the 34in wide monitor lined up with the center 27” I have my scanners, watch list, news along with monitoring the PL. it’s a clean simple set up that gets the job done. I enjoy your videos man keep it up

At this point I just use my phone. But i have just bought 2 screens . I will set it up soon. I have used a $100ZTE phone that worked ok 6 inch. Had to reset a lot .i now have a LG 5 inch that sucks balls, it freezes up to the point i have to take the battery out and missed out on break outs. I started with my phone with no experience started in mid feb with 7, 000 got to almost 8800 then drooped to 4200 in June. Now this last week hit 11000. I do this part time. I have a lot to learn. I just bought my computer for trading. I wish i bought a good phone to trade with. Its just what i feel comfortable when making a trade. I need to start paper trading. I have so much to learn. Thank you for all the awesome videos. Have hard time finding time due to my 5 kids and wife who love to spend time with me and hate for me to do stocks lol. But i love stocks and cant wait to make more $ to go back in to flipping houses with my own $ . I made lots of $ for investors now I want to make my own cash trading .

One Ultra wide LG 36" is enough real estate for my trading set up. Can be reconfigured to multiple split screen(view) set ups.
I also have a 27" Asus as my secondary, which I sometimes use to check financial sites, social media etc. I'm not sure if it's optimal, but my trading platform has tabs for multiple workspaces. So instead of having multiple monitors to look around at, I can just flip through the tabs. Usually run 1 tab with all my watchlist charts only, then individual tabs with chart, options chain, level 2 and account window for each of those watched stocks.

Clay - thanks for prompting a review & a peek at how you set yourself up.

For me: two 24" monitors and pop into an iPhone sometimes as well.

Not as busy as you; ideally looking for zero trades in a week and monitoring positions. I do keep one side for organizing and planning, will over that with a chart tab when busy. Other screen has tabs for markets, chat rooms, and Twitter searches.

Can be weeks with 25 trades, but mostly I am looking for opposite views on my positions and seeking/testing new ideas.

Just ordered my last monitor, for my trading build. 2 24" as my side and 1 32"4k for my main. Wanted to get a 50" 4k but dont have the space lol. Great video by the way Clay.

Have been going back and forth between upgrading to one 46" monitor and having multiple screens open on or 3 or 4 monitors. Currently using a 24" monitor computer and a 17" laptop. It works, sort of, but I need a bit more screen space. And a back up spare in case I wear one out from all the clicking. lol

Just one 60" UHD and you can have up to 8 normal sized screens tiled on it. Or you could have one larger central tile with 6 smaller ones on the sides, or any other configuration, etc. Then you can zoom into any of the tiles up to 60" screen size of you want. This gives you a better gaming experience when not trading. Having a bunch of crappy small 24" monitors is so 1996. I personally just use a single 17" laptop screen and alt-tab between apps, but I am a digital nomad and travel full-time. I don't do market research/analysis, don't follow the news and don't care about multiple timeframes. I only write options and scalp one futures product.

I'm running a 40" 4k in the middle and 4, 23" monitors stacked 2 high on both sides of it set up in a wrap-around manner so they are all in my peripheral vision and within 2 feet of my eyes. This is 9 screens total. Each screen shows the daily, 30 minute, 2 minute, and 1 minutes of a specific stock, 2 screens show various commodities, 1 screen the trading platform. The 4k screen allows you to see a very extended portion of the stock's history at quick glance and draw trend-lines easily... very much worth it to me. No paralysis by analysis whatsoever.

What about just using 1 large 42" or 45" etc monitor?? Is there software to split up the screens?? Haven't found that video yet... Thanks for your vid!!

If you're a beginner you're probably only going to trade one currency pair or stock, so you should probably learn on one monitor. When you start multitasking you'll just get however many monitors you need, or you'll get a bigger monitor and split the screen into several sections.

I currently use 2 24" monitors and a laptop. I'm finding that I need more space since I'm constantly having to toggle in and out of screens which is distracting. I currently trade from the laptop and have my main chart on a 24" and Trade Ideas on the other 24". I'd like to have an additional screen available for another chart and Chat Room by having 4 24" total

I just use one. Usually a 13inch MacBook Pro but sometimes a 24 inch desktop monitor. In the past I have used two but now keep things simple.
