This feature is a lifesaver, we tried so many plugins to achieve this when our component library hit max memory and we needed to break it up. This is AWESOME, thank you so much.

I'm so happy! I'm covering my colleague who maintains the DS & the thought of messing things around seemed so scary:)) .I moved all components, nothing broke, everything went smoothly. Thank you, you are amazing!! x

Lately I keep getting this bug where I would move a component to a new file, publish the new file just like you've shown, and the original file will not get an update saying it's been moved. Restarting the file and even exiting Figma doesn't do anything. Sometimes moving components just simply fails.

Thank you so much! The project I'm working now has grown and I need to create separate files to organize everything correctly. But it wasn't working because I wasn't publishing anything. It's all properly linked now, thanks!

1. On the file containing components you need to move to Design System/Library, press Option + 3, Alt + 3 to open Libraries window. Click "Publish" under "Current file".
2. Uncheck all, re-check only the component(s) to be moved. Click "Publish"
3. Select component(s). Edit > Cut, or Command + X, Ctrl + X
4. Open Design System Library file, Paste (Edit > Paste, Command + V, Ctrl + V)
5. In the bottom-right "To move pasted components to this file, publish a library update" dialog that shows up, click " Publish..."
6. Select "Move to this file" in the corresponding dropdown(s), click "Publish"
7. Original files should receive an update on the bottom-right with the option to Review. If this does not happen, select component on original file, check the right sidebar under Design tab for component details, and click the circular arrows " Update available" button, then select "Review update".
8. Click "Update all", and verify that components have been updated based on the parent.

What about all the instances that have overrides?

Hey, I had an issue after I did this process, I undid everything to show it again to my colleague but looks like the undo broke everything and I couldn't do this linking process again and had to link them manually. Any idea why could this happen?

And how do you create a library? I’m going to need to do this very soon. All my components are local to files.
