Thanks for the review. 9:47 - One small thing: You mention that "there is a second slot to put a second storage drive" - Please note that this is only available in models without a vapor chamber (i.e. the ones with the rtx 3050 card) - the 3060, 3070 and 3080 models do not have a second m2 slot

Very balanced review Matthew,
I am an architect and a hobbiest photographer, I use the Thinkpad P1 Gen 4 (workstation model of the x4) for work, with Quadro A5000 16gb graphics, 64 gb ram, i9 processor.
For personal use, I have a Macbook Pro M1 Max 24 core model with 32 gb ram. This is my first Macbook and its been amazing. The battery life and the size and form factor of the 14 inch model is a joy to use.

However, in the work field, its very hard to replace the thinkpad, my old thinkpad (w541) lasted 8 years of daily use before I decided to upgrade, with processor running max 9-10 hours daily.
Along with 5 year onsite warranty and support, these machines go through alot of abuse. The track pad with buttons is a big deal in 3d design, to hold click and turn models, also the ability to use with mouse with gloves. Quadro graphics and the support for design softwares saves alot of hassle and driver issues.

But hats off to Apple for making a such a compact and power device, surely, this is the beginning of a new leap in laptop technology, atleast for windows laptops.

I really appreciate this review. One thing I would like to see is a more comparable build like a i9 3070 or similar. I am a huge fan of the new Msi Creator z16. It would be neat to see a review of the 3070ti and i7 build. Great vid.

The sticker segment is the most useful and most important and the most informative 🙂

I'm a macbook fan, but bought a thinkpad recently to have a windows laptop also. It's incredible how GOOD these new thinkpads feel... nice camera, keyboard, screen. IMO along with XPS 13 they are the windows version of macbooks when you need something professional/premium.

Hi Matthew, I am confused to choose between P1 and X1 Extreme. I guess the most string difference is one comes with a A-series Nvidia GPU while the other comes with a Geforce-series Nvidia GPU, are these two very different? It reads to me the Geforce one has more CUDA cores and thus more powerful?

Thank you for the smart review. Because I'm a keyboard freak, I'll have to get the Extreme Gen 4.

This is the first time I want to change to MAC, but windows simply has way more support for engineering applications. Tried to run a MATLAB bench (t=bench) and my 1st gen P1 outperformed MacBook pro. There is also a lot of software only run on windows, like ANSYS which on paper should benefit from the new apple silicon.

Totally Agree,
I am a product designer so I need to balance life betwene graphic designing for hobby and figma.
So Affinity and Figma are going to be my 2 Tools of Intrest.
Will go in for Lenovo Thinkpad x1

I have a x1 carbon gen 6 as my daily driver for work-home, it has lots of hours of use and also traveled thousands of miles on trips. I think its 4+ years old now and has never let me down, been looking at the new m2 air due to massive battery life but it's hard to pull me away from the thinkpad line

Battery life and performance on battery, for me at least makes the MacBook the best choice. Only problem for some people is macOS and price

I wish Lenovo offered an AMD option for the Extreme. I don't need/care about Thunderbolt and AMD APU+dGPU should significantly improve power and thermal management whereas Intel+Nvidia is off the charts
