In India Legion 5 pro costs around ₹1.5 Lacks, and 16" Macbook with M1 Max cost around ₹3.3 Lacks (Base model). So for the price we pay, Legion 5 pro clearly wins the value for money part.

Any laptop at the high end -- like MacBook Pro 14 or 16, Zephyrus G14 or 15, Legion 5 Pro, Alienware, Razor Blade, and others -- are amazing machines and it really comes down to what you do, how much you travel, and who you do your work for. Benchmark tests are cool and all, but in the end all of these high-end laptops are smoking fast. It's amazing to think about how laptops have evolved since the mid 90s. If you are a big time gamer then PC laptops will be better, but desktop PC rules. If you are more content creation then both MacBook and PC Laptops can offer many benefits but again desktops are still better. If you're traveling a lot and do basic computer tasks then something like the MacBook Air M1 with its battery life, small size and weight, and excellent speed, will be perfect. But when it comes to content creation (video, music, digital photo work, cad design, programming, 3D modeling, etc) it really just comes down to what OS you prefer. If you are a Mac OS user then the new MacBook Pros are incredible, speedy, powerful, efficient, cool, and super well built. They will last long and have tremendous resale value. Apple has done outstanding work in this area. But if you're a gamer the PC laptop (if you want portable) is the better buy. Gaming, unfortunately, still requires dedicated graphics cards, lots of wattage, big power bricks, lots of loud cooling, and sadly they need to be powered up via the brick or battery life will just get crushed.

The webcam test was extremely shady, in the m1 shot you had the light behind you and out of frame, making the camera expose your skin better.
On the legion you had the back light in frame, forcing the camera to compromise exposure between highlights and shadows, resulting in poor skin exposure.

Im not saying the legion has a better camera, but that was a very improper comparison.

Would be better if the audio comparison was done with the same clip!

Do you care about having a library of AAA games, get the Legion. If you don’t, get the Mac. It’s honestly as simple as that. I have an M1 MacBook Air w/16gb of ram and it tackles most creative workloads very well. However I do like to game so I got a Legion 5 as well. I love both machines for what I use them for.

Apple: "I am quieter"
Legion: "Who cores?"

I won't say much but I would still go with Lenovo Legion. Its a power machine and its one of the best gaming and video editing laptop especially when it comes to value for money.

Great review. I'm a little sorry that the fact that Legion is basically 2x cheaper was not mentioned, which is unbelievable given the performance comparison.
I also missed data on how laptops warmed up under load. For example, when playing challenging games. But it is true that I did not fully understand about 2 parts of the review and this important information for the players was heard there. In that case, I apologize.
The biggest error of the review, however, comes to me as a fairly unfair comparison when it comes to the processor. Only Legion 5 and 7 within Ryzen were named here. Despite the fact that (at least in our country) it is the most popular product Legion 5 Pro with intel i5 and especially i7, 3060. I really missed the comparison with this model there and I am sure that it would play a role in the analysis.

One thing with the Legion 5 Pro, mine came out of the box with some weird software glitch that caused it to draw around 30 Watts at idle (with hybrid mode on etc) couldn't find the cause but after a fresh install of Windows (from ms website, not reset pc) it now draws ~9w, so battery life has literally tripled, fans pretty much are not on unless gaming etc, no problem charging it with a 70w usbc charger, so I take it with me every day, no issues at all using it as a portable device

its mind bogling that Apple crushes those real time benchmark with battery unplug and still has an outstanding battery life.
Kudos apple. Im myself a proud owner of MBA M1 and the old Legion laptop. I dont use my Legion that much anymore except when i want to game.

If you can benchmark against the top spec of the Legion 7 (Ryzen 9, RTX3080) instead, would be interesting..

Why did you not mention that HDMI in MacBook Pro does not support HDMI 2.1 as in Legion.

Why isn't the current price included in the comparisons? If you include that, would you still recommend Apple's latest M1 Pro/Max over the Legions?

No gaming comparison? It's a video editing laptop Vs a gaming laptop. Why not do a full comparison?

It's not just CPU/GPU and power/thermals to take into consideration. It's also the phenomenal memory management, most benchmarking results are just one app running with full focus. When you load down the PC and MacBook with multiple applications with multiple tasks, you'll see the MacBook Pro take a much further lead. Would be great if you also tried to see what apps perform in testing when multiple applications are running processes at the same time, not just serialized benchmarks.

First of, thank you for all the effort its really appreciated. However, there are few things that i feel i have to point out here, first, the puget photoshop benchmark is not optimized for the apple silicon photoshop app. It runs on the intel version of photoshop, hence, the lower scores. 2nd, im assuming u also ran the after effects test on the intel version of the app. Adobe has actually released a beta after effects app optimized for apple silicon and the difference in performance and rendering times is day and night. I dunno, i think in a fair comparison tests, its a clear win for the macbooks. Thanks again.

I like the way you compare so straight to the point with some software and not comparing to both aspect on build, keyboard etc.

Could you do a test of 3d modelling, 3d animations, etc on these 2 laptops?

Hi how you doing? Awesome video. Very informative. Quick question. I have ordered a Sony FX30 cinema line camera. Now I need to choose a powerful laptop for editing. All my content would be 4K, basically documentaries and short films. I have 2 Samsung T7 SSDs, 4TB each. Will work mostly on Adobe Premier Pro. In your opinion which one of these or any other laptops could I get. Would appreciate an answer soon. Thanks so much in advance.

Adobe After Effects is not made for apple silicon yet. It’s still running in Rosetta 2, so it should improve by about 20%, maybe more.
There is an after effects M1 beta that has come out though.
