There is a native FL plugin called tuner that has a bass preset made exactly for this purpose, you load it on the bus as an effect and set the preset, then you press the root note and you see which key its in

I like what you said with the "less is more". I make my own beats and rap over them. I try to keep them simple and more barebones like they kinda did in the 90's because what's important to me is what the rapper is saying. When I listen to YouTube beats abd I try to rap over them, it's just impossible half the time. Though when I go to like a Pete Rock beat, it's super easy to find a flow. Some of the greatest hits in hip/hop were simple beats.
