crazy how you have one of the best mixing engineers breaking things down for us for free and instead of appreciation, all these basement dwellers think they know better.

Bro mixes everything into everything, hes a genius. His method for mixing your soft clipper into your beat is absolutely genius.

I’ve used this trick for 808’s for years. It really helps them to be audible on crappy cell phone speakers. Plus, …who doesn’t enjoy some extra harmonics and texture in a track?.?.?

I always appreciate information like this. All engineers have different techniques. Incorporating different techniques from others into your work, helps you develop a style of your own.

You know this an old video cause he in shape.

It's funny, cuz I actually taught myself how to do the same thing 😂. 2 changes though, I keep the 808s original harmonics and roll off AFTER the TS808 with a 6db cut instead of 12 (so the harmonics bleed more into the mid range before being cut). I ALSO put the TS808 in parallel to control the gain of the harmonics. I can try it his way, though (reversed).

Just get some nearly flat headphones and pair it with sonarworks if you’re on a budget, best bang for your buck and they even have an extension now that pretty accurately recreates the sound of being in a studio with big monitors

Nice to hear one of the big boys validate my own practices. I can not stand those high mid heavy 808’s. I always roll them off or try to find a different one.

Complex waveform or squarewave + LP filter + envelope filter + disto

Just use a normal saturator with a frequency display

People can have their opinion on the sound, that’s all good. But when anonymous people on YouTube think they know better than professionals it’s ridiculous

Not a big fan of that sound. But parallel processing things like this for specific frequency ranges is genius.

This the type of dude to say not use headphones then do these shenanigans

I finally cracked the code people, and let me just tell yo mixing is the last thing to be worried about! It all comes down to chord choice and sound selection and source material. If the production can be great than you’ve figured out at least 90% of the battle

I mean It is a ts808. This is cool tho

Should’ve cut the short right when he played that band passed distortion 😂 wee wuh wee woh

but i didn't understand one thing, is the signal that you see in this video a parallel signal?

i remember an explanation from an old master (maybe his teacher)
where he explained that: the bass signal had to be repeated twice
a sort of copy and paste in the daw.
a copy called Take1 was equalized from 20 to 150 hz and then distortions, saturators etc. were added.
The other copy instead had the remaining frequencies and was processed differently.
is he showing us part of this process in this video?

Try this one trick guitarists have known about for years

Mixing on speakers with a cutoff at 80hz? Am I missing something? What’s the point?

It sounds dull. Not trying to be a arse but it does
