How to Pray and Pronounce the Angelus in Latin : the original, official, universal version with English translations : Pronounced first at normal speed, then slowed down to practice memorization & correct Ecclesiastical Latin pronunciation.
Did you know that in the Angelus prayer we are celebrating the Annunciation every day? The words recount the discourse between God’s Messenger, Gabriel and Mary, by whose yes (fiat = “Let it be done” / “Amen”) She then became the Mother of God (the Incarnation)! The title, Angelus comes from the first word and line of the prayer in the traditional Latin form: “Angelus Domini nuntiavit Mariae.” The final prayer is even taken directly from the official Post-Communion Prayer in the centuries old Traditional Latin Mass as shown in the image above.
Traditionally (since the middle ages), Catholic church bells are rung at 6am, noon, and 6pm, and the faithful are asked to stop what they are doing and pray the Angelus, just as all of Heaven is said to have stopped and waited in silence for Mary’s yes. This is done to commemorate, contemplate, and thank God and Mary for the Incarnation: the most important moment in all of history!
Here is how to pray the Angelus in English and Latin. The “V./” stands for versicle and introduces the part said by the leader. The “R./” stands for response.

V./ ANGELUS Domini nuntiavit Mariæ, (V./ The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary;)
R./ Et concépit de Spíritu Sancto. (R./ And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.)
V./ Ave María, / grátia plena, / Dóminus tecum. / Benedícta Tu in muliéribus, / et benedíctus Fructus Ventris Tui, Jesus.
(V./ Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee. Blessed art Thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.)
R./ Sancta María, / Mater Dei, / ora pro nobis peccatóribus, / nunc, / et in hora mortis nostræ. Amen.
(R./ Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and in the hour of our death. Amen.)
V./ Ecce ancilla Domini; (V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord:)
R./ Fiat mihi secúndum verbum Tuum. (R. Be it done unto me according to Thy word.)
Ave Maria, gratia plena, ... (Hail Mary, full of grace, …..)
V./ Et Verbum caro factum est, (V. And the Word was made flesh:)
R./ Et habitávit in nobis. (R. And dwelt among us.)
Ave Maria, gratia plena, ... (Hail Mary, full of grace, …..)
V./ Ora pro nobis, Sancta Dei Genetrix, (V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.)
R./ Ut digni efficiámur promissiónibus Christi. (R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.)
V./ Oremus. Gratiam Tuam, quaesumus, Domine, mentibus nostris infunde; ut qui, Angelo nuntiante, Christi Filii Tui incarnationem cognovimus, per passionem ejus et crucem, ad resurrectionis gloriam perducamur. Per eundem Christum Dominum nostrum.
R./ Amen.
(Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His passion and cross be brought to the glory of His resurrection, through the same Christ our Lord.
R. Amen)
