BECOMING A MINIMALIST: I'm Getting Rid Of Everything I Own - The Start Of My Minimalism Journey

In this video, I begin the process of getting rid of all of my pointless, unnecessary belongings. This is my personal effort to escape the monotony and agony of everyday life. I want to be free of these things, these "belongings," which are nothing more than shackles that have chained me to a life of consumerism and capitalism, which I whole-heartedly reject.

If you are interested in seeing what I'm selling, check out my eBay store (please note: many things shown in the video will not be listed yet but can be expected to be listed after Thanksgiving):

Also please note, the books I'm getting rid of will most likely not be listed on eBay. I have a local used book shop that buys books from me.

Also also please note, I don't condemn LEGO or think it should stop existing as a company. I think children can benefit greatly from playing with legos because it gives them so many ways to be creative. I'm just saying that for me, it's pointless, because I just build them and leave them to sit on my shelves.

Also also also please note, I Do need to know if you want to see those LEGO pirate videos or not. If you do want to see them, leave a comment. If you DON'T want to see them, also leave a comment. That would be very helpful.

I really enjoyed this video. As I was listening to your poem, I was thinking, “This is overwhelming.” And that’s the point - I chose to listen to all of it because owning a crap ton of stuff IS overwhelming and exasperating. I’ve been decluttering for ten years, but we have four little boys, so the stuff just gets into the house constantly! It’s worth the effort though. Thank you for sharing!

I happened across your video randomly while looking through decluttering videos, and as a collector of lots of things and someone with hoarding tendencies… Wow. Your poem captured my thinking so well. I’ve been so overwhelmed by piles of stuff that it’s stopping me from living my life. I’m done with letting it own me!

Wishing you the best of luck with your decluttering journey! You’ve inspired me to continue with mine, and to think more critically about what really matters to me. ❤

I loved this video and how you answered your own questions by writing it into a poem that drilled the downside of consumerism into your head! I have been on the ever-changing journey for years now and my biggest piece of advice is to take your TIME! Decision making fatigue is no joke and can spiral if you get overwhelmed. Make small changes, and if there is a shadow of doubt about an item/change, sleep on it for a few nights.

I had a house full of stuff that took several trucks to move (and I moved a lot). Now I happily live out of a backpack and I explore the world around me. I do have a few key possessions that I love, no more than fills a shoebox. My affirmation is the realisation that I won't be buried with any of my "stuff", and I sure don't want my family to have to deal with a house full of crap when I pass.

I look forward to watching your journey! Good luck :)

Minimalism is where it's at. It's a challenging journey though but so worth it 😊

You will be happy once you get rid of all that stuff, Brannon. I am happy to see you come to your senses regarding this issue while you are still young. I held on to my trash until I was much older. I ofund it bothersome and time consuming just taking care of it all. It was all just a bunch of stuff collecting dust. I got rid of about 25 large boxes of books. I used to love books, but now I hate them and I have very few that I have kept in my possession. Other stuff, too, I sent it all to the Salvation Army. I was not even in any mood to handle it and sell it. I was just too overwhelmed. While I still can't call myself a mininalist, I am certainly much happier with the space I have in my house. Did you know that the Bible says this in the book of Ecclesiastes Chapter 12: "11 The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd. 12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh."
I wish you well in your endeavours.
Kind regards.
Liz.

Sir, thank you for putting my thoughts into words through your unhinged poem. Couldn't have said it better myself🙏

That poem could be a book haha, Dr Seuss vibes - children and adults can learn from it. Also it took a surprisingly long time after you started saying stuff loads before "stuff" sounded not like a word. I'm glad for your sake you've had this realisation and decided to share it. I'm also on this journey so I'm excited to follow along with yours!

I think you should finish your series before you get rid of your legos for the story. If you are getting rid of it anyways, you might as well get the use out of it that you paid for. I’m still so happy for you though that you are able to let some of these things go! 🥰 you’re inspiring me to do the same

I’ve been donating and selling all my excess stuff too slowly for about 5 years and traveling more so I’m thinking of it as raising money for travel and experiences instead of buying more stuff. Good luck!

Hey from Germany. I 100% understand U! I (still) got a small Comic Collection. But I live as a Minimalist. If U sell all this USELESS Stuff U can Put the Money in Dividend Stocks for example. They will pay U a small Dividend. U can use this Money to Go to a Trip for a Weekend for example... Just an Idea. Happy so See what will Happen.
