I counted everything I own as a minimalist.

It’s been said that the average American home has 300,000 things in it. As a minimalist, I wondered what that might look like for me. So I decided to count everything we own.

Nathalie the minimalism QUEEN! Literally had the same with my boyfriend who would accuse me of having a shopping problem. We counted our clothes and shoes and guess who had more… him. A time consuming way to make a point but that’s what relationships are for

Great Video Matt! I think this can apply to just a specific category of 'stuff' you own, as you can gain some context of how much you have of something. Say for example you have lots of clothes, breaking it down into categories can help you be more intentional with future purchases, or help you decide whether you actually need something.

My Christmas and Halloween decorations are among the most treasured items I own! 🤩🎄🎃Minimalism isn't about judging what our partners or others find valuable. It's about identifying that for ourselves and making thoughtful choices that improve our lives and hopefully the world. Personally, I find it moving and beautiful that people invest their time (and storage ; - ) to create holiday magic others can enjoy! 💖

I know that a lot of people make fun of minimalists counting their shit but I like that Matt just approached this as a fun exercise for him- no judgements on other people, just something fun that he wanted to do.

I've counted all my items in the past for calculating my net worth and it takes several hours but I've never had anywhere close to that many things.

Ever since starting this minimalism journey in 2015, I actually own much more items than I did before. The only difference is that I'm aware of what I own and enjoy my items much more because it's a curated collection of things I like: books, art, art supplies, tech, musical instruments, etc... It's really relaxing to have my space work for me rather than having to adjust to my space.
