My guess is that in pacifist and neutral, you’re able to walk through but choose not to, as to be polite. But in genocide, you just walk through him with no regard for him as you are aware physical attack do nothing

If I remember correctly, there’s actually a fan game where napstablook ends up being a final boss after a successful genocide route(sans is dead you killing the stragglers) and you only deal damage to him because he’s possessing a suit of armor

I like to imagine that Frisk would see that attacks do nothing to Nabstablook so they'd just ignore them, walking away and killing more monsters while Nabstablook continues to try crying on them. Or maybe Nabstablook could make a dunce hat with their tears and put it on Frisk
