NASA’s Kepler Mission Discovers Bigger, Older Cousin to Earth

NASA's Kepler mission has confirmed the first near-Earth-size planet in the “habitable zone” around a sun-like star. The newly discovered Kepler-452b is the smallest planet to date discovered orbiting in the habitable zone -- the area around a star where liquid water could pool on the surface of an orbiting planet -- of a G2-type star, like our sun. The confirmation of Kepler-452b brings the total number of confirmed planets to 1,030. This video shows an artist's concept that depicts one possible appearance of the planet Kepler-452b.

So what if we can't go there? It's not always about leaving earth. This is about answering some of our most fundamental questions. The question of whether life is only on Earth. As far as we know, we have never confirmed life to be found anywhere other than earth. Being able to discover that life exists somewhere else, or to discover that life does not exist in a place that we think life should exist, will bring us new insights.

Thanks NASA for your efforts in discovering new worlds. I hope we make contact with another forms of intelligence in this century

Imagine if we get radio signals from this planet.

Their satellite can take pictures of the planet and send it through a strong signal millions of miles away, and i'm just sitting here trying to get a better wi-fi connection from the room next door

I hear this news almost every year! What's the point! We're never going to go that far.

I get the feeling that one day the probe will stop transmitting. And the last image it sends back will be of something we dont want to see.

Kepler is the perfect cousin to what Earth was before just until man gets on there
then it will become "Earth 2.0"

Wonderful news, wow what possibilities. Good luck and smooth sailing. Looking forward to receiving more information as it becomes available.

I feel excited when I think there's someone waiting for me for thousands years, do you?

In relative terms, the distance from earth to this newly discovered planet, Kepler 452b, is equivalent to the distance from the border of northern Maine to central Maine (or for those on the left coast, the border from northern Washington state to its southern part). In other words, we’re in the same state on a galactic level. Now isn’t that interesting?

Perhaps someday we will figure out how to travel through light beams by creating worm holes... And traveling across the galaxy and universe will become instantaneous.

ALIEN YEAH 👽
Good new, thanks Nasa for this.
I hope that there are living beings!

If it's older than Earth, if it's giving us the preview of the Earth after billions of years. Therefore, it's possible there was alien life before on that planet and there's a small possibility we came from that planet.

Born too early to space travel and born too late to discover Earth.

A great discovery. Salute the efforts of scientists to find earth like planet exiting in this universe. It will prove we are not alone

If there's life in Kepler, they are looking at us in the same way and saying the same things

how fantastic is this.... wish i was born now and watch it all come together ..

They should start working on probes with faster than light capabilities to study the planets that Kepler discovers, That way we can know for sure if the planets could support us
