CHAOS Dreadnoughts Are F&$KING DARK! | Warhammer 40k Lore

If dreadnoughts weren't disturbing enough, their chaos variant is way darker! now like with all things in the 40K universe, there are hundreds of different variations and each group that uses these things has a different story for them. thousand suns dreadnoughts are very different from night Lords dreadnoughts, and each warband views them in different ways. the common thread amongst them is a chaos based Marine would much rather die than be placed in this metal abomination!

Yeah, if I remember it right loyalist put their dreadnoughts to sleep and only wake them up for battles. The chaos dreadnoughts are awake all the time. All those hundreds and thousands of years in constant pain. And even Slaaneah marines hate it because it's constant pain that never changes

I remember reading a bit about Hellbrutes.
If I remember right Khorne hellbrutes lessen their pain by inflicting pain upon others and the only chaos faction that doesn’t view it as a punishment is the death guard

There is a scene in fabius's trilogy where an emperor's children dreadnaught being dragged to battle while he begs his brother "like a tortured child" that scene was a genuine nightmare bro.

Sure the Helbrutes are one of the many, MANY, *M* *A* *N* *Y* horrible fates for a follower of Chaos, but on the other hand you do get a bunch of tentacles for an arm. And in the end, is that not what man has dreamt of since first he looked up at the stars?

Most of the chaos dreadnought is infected by demon...imagine trap inside a coffin & slowly being fit into a psychotic dreadnought that being chained to the ship because ita cant stop move eventhough theres no pilot..

the big difference is loyalist dreadnaughts are put into stasis fields inbetween combat
so that they dont get the time to realize their situation, dont get to think about all that they miss
and even then a lot of them never wake back up, simply refusing to return to their body
chaos does not give that choice, they are kept awake, chained in the ships until they are dropped down to exact revenge on the universe
chaos dreadnaughts are no more torture then loyalist ones, the only difference is time and the ability for independent thought

and even then with all that time, there are still chaos dreadnaught that have kept their minds intact and lead their legion from the front just like they did during the heresy
meanwhile the oldest loyalist dreadnaught is woken up for less then a day every few hundred years, and his sanity is already fraying

I remember one short story Abaddon strapped a space Marine into a dreadnaught sarcophagus and mounted it on the front of his ship

In the Chaos Space Marine codex there is a page where a wounded Chaos Marine is yelling at his colleagues to leave him to die rather than put him in a dread.
This and the Heldrake are two of some of the worst punishments Chaos Marines can endure. Chaos Space Marines love the destruction their vehicles cause but unlike loyalists they ABSOLUTELY do not like the idea of being vehicle crews with demon machine spirits. There is literally pages of lore where Chaos Marines feed cultists to their vehicles to appease them and many end up fused into the tanks; trapped with the demons who inhabit them until the demon either kills them or consumes their bodies and makes them part of the machine.

Loyalist tank crews; great! Purge and kill in the name of the Emperor.

Chaos Tank Crews?... save one bullet in the bolter for yourself.
